How long does this take in your state? I applied for a renewal about two months before mine is to expire, found out yesterday that they won't even look at it until about the day it expires and it will take two more months to complete. We have no-permit carry here but I'll be stuck for a couple of months unable to carry outside the state or use the permit to bypass NICS on a purchase. I had no idea we had this kind of delay here.

In North Carolina you get a reminder when your renewal approaches. You cannot begin the process any more than 90 days before expiration (I tried).

It sort of depends by county here, too. Some are more expedient than others. I had a delay on renewal, but the pandemic was just getting going good. They told me I was okay to carry in-state with the old one, but I wouldn't be able to buy anything new until I got the new one. Common sense would dictate that I shouldn't try to carry out-of-state with the old one...

I want to say mine took 4-5 weeks where ordinarily (pre-pandemic) it might have been half that. But I'm not sure how long it was supposed to take, exactly.

Last year I renewed my PA permit through my county sheriff’s office. It took two weeks from the day I handed over the application to the day I picked up the permit. That timing could vary from county to county. By statute PA sheriff has a maximum of 45 days to issue or deny.

Each county can be different here in Missouri. The county Sheriffs Office issues the permits. For my county, I walk in, pay my renewal fee and they print out a new card right there on the spot and I walk out with a new card.

You need to pursue this further. Assuming you are still in KS, the sheriff's office has 7 days to get your application to the AG and the AG has 90 days to approve or deny it. From the sound of it, the sheriff may already be in violation of state law.

Last time it took a couple of weeks to get my new LTC. Did everything online in Texas.

Here in Ohio getting a first CHL was a nightmare during COVID. While Ohio does have Constitutional carry I still maintain my CHL (Concealed Handgun License) mainly for travel outside Ohio where states have reciprocal concealed handgun licensing. A CHL runs for 5 years and renewal is not a problem, submit the form and in a week you have your new license good for another 5 years. You can also renew anytime and if your CHL does expire there is no need for training or certification again. COVID never effected me but I guess new applications took 6 months just to get an appointment with the sheriff's department.

A buddy of mine had to renew his it took about two months. I got a lifetime right at the start so I never had to do it. Now we have constitutional carry in IN so there is no need to.

I'm up for my first renewal in a couple of months. My understanding is that in Montana, you are encouraged to re-up 60 days prior to your expiration date. No reminder will be sent (I believe). I have it my calendar and we will see how it goes.

A CWP is no longer required in MT for concealed carry....but laws can change. I'm going to keep the permit.

No more than 2 weeks usually. Mine is good for 5 years and was just renewed in October. The lady at the courthouse told me that if my hard copy didn't arrive in 2 weeks to come back and they would issue a temporary card.

But 5 years ago, it took about 3 months. It wasn't on the local end, but IIRC workers at the state level were in a conflict with the governor over pay raises and were slow walking everything.

But that is the only time it has taken over 2 weeks.

I envy you guys! Illinois took 5 months to inform me my renewal application refresher class certificate which I attached to the online application was “illegible”. I attached a better photo and resubmitted it. It was placed at the back of the line! It took 4 more months to get my new permit. The whole time my CCL was listed as pending and was still valid.
The entire intent is to make it as difficult as possible for anyone to legally carry in Illinois.

In Kansas a renewal application goes directly to our state Attorney General's office. I do not know whether this is due to overwhelming demand, or staff shortage. To my knowledge we are not a state where there is a deliberate slow-down in the process. There are complications if you apply for renewal after the existing permit expires, but as long as your application was timely postmarked, they don't hold it against you because they were slow.

I haven't lived in New Hampshire long enough for my permit to come up for renewal. Yes, I have a permit even though we have constitutional carry, for out of state reciprocity. I also have Connecticut and Massachusetts permits. The CT permit came up for renewal 2 years ago and took about 6 weeks. The MA permit has to be renewed every year, and this year took 3 months.

In the county I live in the sheriffs department recommends putting in for renewal at least 30 days but no longer than 60 days prior to expiration. I have to renew this year as well. Mine expires mid June so I plan to go ahead and put in the paperwork by the end of April.

Wisconsin notifies you several months in advance that your permit is going to expire(every 5 years). Renewal is online and the new card generally shows up in a week or so. Last time, I got my new card, 3 months before the old one expired.

In Alabama the renewal has always been same day. Took about 10 min every time I’ve had to renew. They print a hard license right in the office for you, however that’s all been pre pandemic. Mine expire in a couple months so I guess I’ll find out pretty soon.

I remember when Texas first started many years ago it was a 2 day class and at least a 6 month wait. That has all changed and if you have had one before it's renew online. I think the class now for newbies is a 1/2 day now...
