Carrying 2 guns to much?

I often carry a GP100 appendix and an aluminium j-frame in my left side front pocket. I know, I know, I’m gonna get killed in the streets. I just shoot revolvers better than semiautos. And I like em more.

I really don’t wanna try and keep up with two guns bumping around in public. Public restrooms etc. I certainly did when I was working. But, retired, no.

Unless both guns are in equally secure holsters, I’d be worried about losing one in a physical fight. Getting blindsided. Falling out of my pocket in a public bathroom. Whatever.

One of my Officers hung his Fanny pack, with his gun, on the hook inside the stall. Only to be surprised by a hand reaching over the door and snatching it. Leading to a rather comical tug of war. Over the stall door. While his pants were around his ankles. Involving lots of obscenities.

He won the tug of war. Suspect was long gone by the time he pulled his britches back up. He was able to describe the suspects hands though.

It is all about one's comfort zone as I see it. I rarely ever carry 2 guns. A gun spare ammo and a knife is enough for me. Some always carry a flashlight. Each to there own.

About 30 years ago there was a hospital worker in my town that was jumped and knocked to the ground by 2 druggies trying to steal his backpack while he was on his way from his car to work. He couldn't get to his IWB Glock under his heavy winter coat but was able to get the .22 out of his coat pocket which drove them off. He got one of them in the thigh with the .22.

The guy with the .22 bullet in this thigh was turned into the police by the very same hospital ER. That guy quickly rolled over on his cohort that had thus far gotten away.

A backup gun made sense in that scenario. Personally I have only carried a single gun on me for the past 35 years. I have never felt the need for a second backup piece. But do what ever works best for you.

P.S. The hospital suspended the worker for carrying a firearm on hospital property. Then the local news reported how the hospital had made sizeable cutbacks in their spending on security as a cost cutting measure a little more than a year prior to the attack. They interviewed several other hospital employees who had complained about safety, especially in early morning (when the assault on the worker happened). They also reported on the large upswing in reported assaults and car break-ins around the hospital since the security cut. The hospital ended up taking a really big one up the shorts when all was said and done.

One of my favorite CCW moments came as a result of this question. I was stopped by TxDPS for an expired inspection sticker. I did my lawful duty of revealing to the elder trooper that I was carrying and the guns were carried on my hip and in my rear pocket. The DPS officer why I "needed two guns." It was at that moment I was watching his partner, that I assume was a rookie, was in some sort of combat crouch with his hand on his gun there back at my C pillar and I told the elder officer I needed two guns because I don't have a partner shadowing me behind C pillars with his hand on his gun in a combat crouch. The elder trooper cut his gaze quickly to his partner and said, "Just a moment..." He went back and had a chat with the younger officer who never approached my car again. The elder cop never mentioned my guns again and everything was professional after that.

I really wanted to laugh at the timing of the whole situation. Here is a weathered old trooper being unnecessarily inquisitive while his partner is being a calamity cop while the whole situation revolved around the issue of personal safety.

I mostly carry my Taurus spectrum .380. Nice pocket pistol. Sometimes i'll carry my PT111 9MM. If i need to go to certain areas in town. Not long ago. If you didn't lock the doors. No worries. An realtor advertised in the Philadelphia and NYC papers. And it bought in the slum lords and the riffraff they rent to. Im to old to start over. So i do the best i can.

The pilot episode of The Rookie had a similar scene. Female trainee goes into a stall takes off her duty belt hangs it on the rack her to reaches over the top of the stall, steals the gun and runs. In an effort to teach her not to do that.

I watched the whole scene and all I could think of was how in the hell did she get that belt off with the Keepers ?

I know someone who carries 4 hand guns. He's a big coward and hides behind his guns. He's also the type. If you have something he has to have one too. One thing he did for me good. Was turn me on to 1911's.
Reminds me of a scene in "Better call Saul".
Gung-Ho hired protection guy carrying 3 guns: "You don't have a gun? What are you going to do if you need a gun?"
Mike Ehrmantraut: "I will use yours" {as he takes the gun out of gung-ho's hand in a quick efficient swipe.}

:)
