Carrying a rifle / shotgun from car to home... - OR

Although perfectly legal in my state, I make a point to avoid walking out to the car openly carrying a long gun. I hold it close to my body and make sure nobody is in sight first. This is because I don't want to advertise that I own firearms to whoever might be passing by. Guns are one of the most commonly stolen items here because they are easy to convert into cash. I prefer to keep my valuables out of sight to avoid becoming the target of a break-in when I am away at work.

Never said Gun stores aren't robbed, (and you have my condolences for your friend) but you have to consider the vast regional difference between our coasts.

Here it's surprising because that sort of thing generally doesn't happen, frankly when the sky is drooling Ice-water for 3 months out of the year, and just Cold rain for 6 of the others... we just don't have the inclination to go about properly killing each other at a good pace.

However, on your side of the country I can see how it would be at the fore of the mind for more people. ;)

The OP is concerned with carrying weapons to his car Here, in such a manner that in other states would go entirely without notice.

Eugene is a city that has specifically passed ordinances forbidding Open Carry without a CHL. Not that that particularly applies here, but it speaks to the attitudes of those charged with being the City's custodians.

Not quite Mr.Roger's Neighborhood here, but if you squint just right....

Is it legal to transport a rifle / shotgun openly from one's car to their home without a case if it's unloaded?
There's legal, and there's polite. If I thought it might give my neighbor a heart attack, I wouldn't do it. The fact that she might (surviving her heart attack) call 911 to report a man with a gun :)eek:;)) is strictly a secondary consideration.

It has already been mentioned, perhaps, that if your walk from your car to your home takes you either through a federal building or the sterile area of an airport...:D
I lost my friend,Tracy Allen, the 48 year old owner of Miami's Arsenal Guns, when 3 thugs burst in and a shootout occurred in October,2001
I too am sorry for your loss. Time dulls but never removes such pain. It never should.

I live in Sisters and a lot of people have fully loaded gun racks in the back of there trucks and none of them that I know have ever gotten in trouble. I wouldn't recommend it in larger cities but Its fine transporting them around here from in car out of car.

It is legal sometimes. Why not just buy a case to transport it in your vehicle?
You wear a raincoat, when your wand might get dirty don't ya? Get a case, bedsheet, box, anything. Protect the shotgun, and your freedom.

....

Eugene does not have an OC with CHL only provision. A link to the Eugene code was kindly provided by Chuck Dye above, you might want to read it.

To the other comments: I don't really care if the neighbor doesn't like firearms in general or OC or firearms in particular. They need to get used to it, just like they had to get used to black people sitting in the front of the bus down south back in the 60's.

I refuse to cowtow to any "politically correct" thought. Those people need to learn to act like an adult, not a spoiled brat. I will not give up my freedom for anyone.
