Carrying "less" in a "good" area. Nope, no thanks.

If you think bad cops don’t exist and wouldn’t toss a baggie of illegal narcotics into your vehicle during a traffic stop - in other words plant illegal evidence to screw with a civilian, you’re living under a rock.
Wow, great reason to not carry a firearm! [groan] Cop-bashing these days = low-hanging fruit. Anyway, I guess someone just watched "Serpico" from 1973 the other day on Showtime ...
In this this thread we encourage carrying the Glock 19 and spare mag everywhere.
Yep, and I continue to be disappointed in the sheer numbers of (presumed) RKBA-supporters who admit on public internet forums that they "adjust" their carry arms based on some magic formula for perceived risk in the area to which they are headed ...

Yea. Must be some levels of increased carry based on location, time of day, and prediction.
Something like this:
Green - "good area" in the daytime = LCP 380 in case somebody(s) try to kill me.
Yellow- "good area" at night or outside "good" area in day = Glock 19 in case somebody(s) try to kill me.
Red- "bad area" = Glock 19 + spare mag in case somebody(s) try to kill me.

Conveniently, in that color coded hierarchy, "bad" people remain in their area, immobile. o_O

An alternative way of selecting carry, encouraged in this thread is ...
Of the concealable guns one owns, carry the one they would prefer in hand if they had to defend themself.
Whatever the Red carry is, carry that everywhere; "bad" people are mobile and not completely nocturnal. ;)

I do not do the weapon rotation bit but rather one weapon for all occasions within reason, in regards to concealed carry. Avoidance of stupid people, places and things is more important than the weapon selection that I carry. Also when the moon comes up and the sun goes down I'm at home. You will not find me at a convenience store at zero dark thirty. There is a lot to be said for avoidance as opposed to weapon selection.

I've had this discussion so many times with LEO"S in annual and quarterly firearms training that I finally gave up and just stressed practicing with your EDC gun. The " I just drop a (pick pick a caliber .380 or less with 6 or 7 rounds if I'm going to the store for milk" . Is generally thought of as a fine thing to do. I just can't see it. If a threat is so low, why carry a gun at all? If in fact there is a good enough reason to carry a gun isn't it just common sense to carry a firearm that you would carry in a high threat area? if your going to go armed go ARMED.

It results from a failure of deductive reasoning.

I was guilty of that when I first started carrying.

Me too.
However that has no influence on whether I'd prefer a 38 snub / LCP 380 in hand versus a Glock 19.
The Glock 19 (example) is preferred regardless of location or light, so that is what gets carried.

Professionally, I carry less on an every day basis than I do when doing overwatch at a protest/riot.

I do the same in my non-professional life. As many have said, if I expect I may get into a gun fight, I’d go somewhere else or carry a rifle. As such I carry a subcompact and a spare mag most of the time, because it is convenient and always on me. That’s the compromise I’ve chosen.

So I have a real quandary for you all. I have a CCW. The kicker is I am a FED employee. I can’t carry on the clock or in a FED building or vehicle. I travel for work 9 months out of the year. You do the math...Kind of a bummer.

Bad people are everywhere. You also can't really tell the bad from the good by how they look alone. And yes unfortunately some of them work in Law Enforcement as well, so this isn't "Cop Bashing" at all.

Lol, You are so correct, this topic has bean beaten to death and the body dug up to be beaten some more now the skeleton being boiled for broth. Just another form of the the most common Caliber wars and capacity wars, that are so prevalent on the THR.
Speaking of the Caliber Wars, I though that was settled by having what you can shoot the best with follow up shots if you need them. And of course get what you can afford.

There is no such thing as "caliber war" only caliber discussion.
How is my thread topic beaten to death? Are their other threads about not carrying "less" in a good area? I think not.
Thread encourages carrying same carry regardless of location or time of day, capacity and caliber included.
Carry whatever you carry wherever with confidence; I do.

For anyone who is thinking that It makes sense to carry “less” gun while going on a quick milk run, well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but supermarkets, grocery stores, and convenience stores ARE hot spots for trouble. In particular, the parking areas of such places, are hot spots for trouble. This was easy enough to gauge, based upon working big-city police patrol, for almost 34 years. (Houston, Texas.)

If it were my habit to up-gun for troublesome places, and carry light in “safe” places, I would up-gun for milk runs. Unless, of course, I go straight to the dairy farm. ;)

I do not always “pack heavy,” in retirement, but I would rather not say, on a publicly-viewable forum, when and where I carry what, and how.

There is wisdom born of experience here. Our true risk of facing armed criminals isn't always what we perceive.

Stop-n-robs and liquor stores after dark are often thought of as being dangerous. Parking lots after dark, too. On the other extreme, I used to think that sitting in church had effectively zero risk of armed conflict.

What's the risk of going to a theatre to see the latest movie? Driving to dinner out? Just watching TV at home? Sleeping in a hotel room? Are the risks of these activities between that of the stop-n-rob parking lot and church?

The fact is that we just don't know for sure. They're all pretty low for most of us.

Low enough to leave emergency gear behind? Or to carry a pocket gun? "You be the judge..."

Very much worth repeating.

As is noting "100% of home invasions happen at home."

I've been carrying for about 13 years. During that time I've had a lot of chances to decide what works for me.

9mm double stack Glocks work for me. My EDC is a Glock 26 with one reload. If I can conceal a bigger gun I carry a Glock 19 with 2 reloads. On the 2 or 3 days a year I can't conceal a Glock 26 I carry a Ruger LC9 with one reload.

Abiding by the Rule of Stupids does more to assure my safety than what I carry but I carry anyway because crackheads don't obey the Rule of Stupids.

YMM(and very likely does) V

I got my license to carry in PA after an extreme road rage incident a dozen years ago. Gradually I stopped making a habit of carrying. Last week I was returning from Home Depot on a country road already going 5 mph over the posted speed limit. A car pulled right up to my rear bumper and started swerving back and forth in both lanes behind me while flashing his lights and honking his horn. I slowed down to let him pass and he kept it up. So I then completely came to a stop and waited for the fight to begin. Fortunately he just furiously passed me while giving me the finger out his window. Ironically, he turned off only 1/4 mile ahead. What a bonehead. Now once again I carry everywhere I go except to church.

Gunpowder and motor fuel do not mix.

Road rage should never lead one to consider using a firearm.

I slowed, then stopped to de-escalate the situation. Which worked. I am 67, at the time was NOT carrying, and would only use a firearm as a last resort self defense measure. Any incident resulting in a deady threat to my life WILL be answered with a firearm.

Had you said "any imminent deadly threat will be met with a firearm if that is immediately necessary, you would have been fine.

Of ccurse had you instigated the confrontation, that would be another story.

But--you have now posted publicly, in a searchable database, something permanent that could, in the event that you ever do have to use force, be used against you with great effect.

Read our Sticky on the legal implications of posting on the internet.
