Case Trimming and Dies

I know most people talk about case trimming and how much the RCBS X-Dies eliminate (or at least minimize) case stretch. Does the Hornady CGND dies do the same thing? If they do, then which ones are prefered. I have lee dies right now and it seems most of my time reloading is spend on trimming cases. I want to minimize this chore a bit more. Don't get me wrong I really enjoy reloading and all that is involed, but trimming cases just kind of sucks. Any takes?

I hate trimming also. I bought a Giraud trimmer, and now it's really quick.

I have several of the RCBS X die sets, but I've been using Redding bushing die sets because I believe they are more accurate.

Hornady dies will stretch the cases more or less the same as any other conventional sizing die.

I've not tried the x-dies, but have heard good stuff on them. They're "on my list" of things to try.

thanks for the help. It looks like I will buy me a set of the RCBS dies. Anyone use these in a Hornady loader and if so do they have any issues like the lee dies do?

Not to hijack your thread.....Excellent question. I was thinking of either the Dillon or the Giraud. I checked out the Giraud web site and I must say it looks quite impressive. Anybody want to share their experiences about this trimmer?

I haven't bought one (yet), but I can tell you right now all I've ever heard about it is "It is the best thing I've ever bought"

The only problem with Lee dies in a LNL AP is the CFCD when used in the 5th slot. The die must come all the way down to the shellplate, and interferes with the ejector wire. In a rifle reloading setup on the AP, you would not use all 5 stations, so that would not be a problem anyway. All rcbs X dies are rifle dies, not pistol dies.

I'm interested if anyone has experience with the Dillon trimmer. I thought that was an expensive option until I checked the Giraud's. *wow*

I've used the Dillon motorized trimmer for about 15 years. I've got dies for it in .223, .243, .308, .30-06 and 8x57 Mauser. It's as fast as sizing a case, but it doesn't chamfer the case mouth, which has to be done separately. I've devised a method to do that even faster than the trimming.

If you're doing large volumes of one caliber, then the Dillon will get 'er done rather quickly, but if you're doing many different calibers, the dies get a little pricey.
