As I'm about out of lead, I thought I'd ask for recommendations on preferred lead recipes for casting. These will be plinking pistol bullets, for around 850 to 1,100 fps loads. In the past, I've used whatever lead was available, which included a lot of wheel weights. Never had any leading or feed issues. Is there a common lead mixture that is suitable without adding wheel weights (75/25, 90/10, etc.)? Thanks again for the help.

jeez i've only used non ww one time

I got my hands on some babbit lead- ( there are many different kinds) I think mine was for low RPM stuff, heavy load.- very high lead content and it cast very well.

I see your in texas, so im guessing you don't have a steel mill near your home like i do. . . I think the lead they use to balance boats (i think its called the keal where they put it?) is pretty good.

I use nothing but wheel weights. I shoot everything from 32 to 454. The 454 shoots 310 grain home cast gas check bullets with no problem. I have no leading problems from any of my handguns, or even 30-30 for that matter. I vote for those free wheel weights.

good shooting

Wheel weight, though a nearby metals plant, ( about 5 miles or so), tells me I can pick up an ingot of 92/6/2 anytime...62 pounds for $120. Gah.
I do have some pure lead a gent from castboolits.com sent me, and some alloying metal I'll use when I start using that stuff.

I always used wheelweights with a little 95/5 solder mixed in. You could mix some pure lead with 95/5 solder and get good results, but wheelweights are just so easy, even if you have to buy them.

the more pressure i put on a boolit the harder i make my alloy .
wasted alot of alloys just plinking when the softer stuff wouldve worked!!!!
tin is about the easiest for me to get ahold of these days.
blend to pressures & size, size, size!!!!!!!!
