Howdy everyone, I have a Cattaraugus 225Q that I am thinking of having refinished (blade cleaned up, sharpened and new leather rings handle built). Should be around $40. I do not have the original sheath.

The knife only goes for about $20 on ebay, but I think it is a great knife and worth the money to get it looking like new again.

The 225Q is a great all-around knife. I have two...one a complete beater, and the other in near-mint condition (safe queen). An awesome piece of American history for sure.

if you can get a brand new one for half the price to clean up your old one, why not spring on the deal? Sentimental reasons?

no clue i don't have one. He mentioned something about ebay you may want to start there.

Wedge, when you made reference to them being sold on ebay did you mean used ones or new ones?

I don't think they're made anymore. They were made by Cattaruagus in WWII and issued as a quartermasters knife in place of the kabars normal grunts got:) The pommel is is a thick peice of steel (might be laminated) thats checkered on the bottom to be used like a hammer on shipping containers.

I seem to remember seeing new 225Q's in the Brigade Q'Master catalog within the last couple of years. Don't think they are in the latest catalog I have.
Does anyone know of a knife maker that could rehandle a 225Q in micarta?

wedge, who is the work on your knife going to be done by?

I want to have mine done also

Holy thread necromancy!

I ended up not having the work done yet. There is a local knife shop in Austin that will do it for $40, but I never got around to it.
