Yes I am that tall and skinny

Being the body type that I am makes anything with a halfway long grip impossible IWB to hide whenever I crouch or bend (which is a lot, I work in a parts department at a large car dealership grabbing things off of shelves all day.)

Yesterday I saw a Springfield XD40 subcompact and I really liked it, specifically because of the short grip which can be extended with an included longer magazine if I wanted to play with it at the range.

I feel like I could hide this decent enough but I'm not positive.

I already have a full size Ruger SR9, and Springfield 1911 with a few thousand rounds down them so I'm no stranger to handguns. I just want something I can carry with me especially on motorcycle trips so I don't have to keep it in a saddlebag (locked of course) or in my riding jacket.

Caliber is not a huge concern I was just thinking 40 because that's what the local police use and they practice at the same range I do and I have a lot of their brass picked up and with a set of dies I could start reloading that with my other calibers.

So is the XD40 sc a good choice? Also open to other suggestions...

I recently bought the XDm 3.8 Compact in .40 caliber (which is slightly larger than the one you are looking at) with the intention of carrying it concealed. I'm still waiting on my permit to arrive but have practiced concealing by just pushing it inside my waistband where it will probably ride in the holster and I don't think carrying that gun with the right holster will be a problem. However, I won't be doing a lot of bending and stretching over my head either.

From the research I have done and other posts here, I will be buying the Crossbreed Supertuck and a good belt to start with and go from there.

I like the way my XDm shoots and the .40 does not kick as bad as I thought it would. Now, that you have posted, prepare yourself for the Glock-Glock-Glock assault.

I've personally never shot any XD, but people in my family own one and I've never heard anything bad

My suggestion is to find a good local range that rents guns and fire a few that you are interested in and see how they feel to you. Personally i would suggest either a hammerless revolver( Ruger LCR) or an auto like the Glock G26/26 or G36 or XDM 3.8 Compact. But seeing you are slender and always reaching around all day, i would look into something small like the Ruger LCP, SR40c/SR9c, or LC9.

I'm 6' and about 170. Which is still pretty slim.

Your best bet would be to carry in the 1 o'clock (or 11 o'clock if you are a lefty).

I use a "MIC" holster for my Glock 26 and a "Zack" holster for my XD45c.

You can google zack holster and it will give you the details. This seems to be the surest way no to be seen.

just turn sideways, the BG will not see you.
i was 6'3" at 130# years ago.

check out a s&w 380 bodyguard using an iwb uncle mike's holster

.

I carry a SW Bodyguard .380 auto in a Galco pocket holster. It's great.

If you want something larger I'd suggest something like the LC9 or if even bigger like the .40 carry it in a Crossbreed Supertuck IWB holster. I'm pretty small and carried that gun with a compact 1911 .45 no problem.

sp101. but if you dress right you could hide everything.

Think about it; the best clothes to carry any gun on the planet that a man can wear is a business suit. I carried my .44 redhawk wearing my 3 piece suit.

That being said, I wore my suit only once last year.

Sp101, Sig P6, the slim kel tecs (they are not as hard to shoot as some people make it out ot be)

I'm only slightly heavier than you and have no problems with a Kel Tec PF9 for summer IWB.

If you have to move and crouch a lot, you may want to opt for pocket carry though. I can pocket carry and reasonably draw the PF9 from cargo pants and most khakis, but with normal jeans you would be limited to the typical .380 pocket guns.

You could probably conceal a 12g pump under a medium shirt?

JK. I was pretty slim myself til I had kids.(I tend to eat their leftovers)

Love my sr9c, but it isn't a pocket gun.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm 6'0" and about 150 lbs. I have a 28-29" waist so I too find it pretty difficult to conceal a weapon.

I do two things.
1). I wear a button up shirt untucked. Maybe at work that isn't an option for you. I can even wear an OWB holster with an FBI forward cant at about 5 o' clock and have no concerns about being spotted.

2). My wife has a S&W J-Frame. I have found that this type of holser works really well, even tucked in. The small grip of the gun stays well hidden. Another firearm of similar size would work too if you wanted an autoloader - Ruger LC9, Kimber Solo, etc. http://www.amazon.com/Galco-Tuck-N-Go-Holster-Natural-Right-hand/dp/B003IZFPZO

I've found that that works out pretty well.

At 6'2", 240#, I don't quite have the concealment issue you have. Wearing a long shirt can alleviate the printing of stetching and bending. Carrying IWB will even allow you to tuck the shirt in, just don't tuck it too deep.

Ankle carry isn't my first choice for my only carry gun. Maybe if I had a small BUG, it would be ankle carried, but for primary, it's too far from your hand when you need it NOW. Of course that's my opinion. Concealed carry is a long list of compromises, wardobe being chief among them. Which is why I'm glad Michigan allows open carry. I'm still getting my CPL, wear it OWB with a cover garment. I can easily get away with that 8-9 months out of the year.

Well, I went a little different way, went to the sporting goods store and picked up a S&W 442-2 used for $350

Hmm... 6'-1" and 140 lbs? How about a dart blowpipe?:D

I WISH I had your problem. I'm 5'-8" and 235 lbs.:( I could probably carry a house brick and no one would notice.

ETA: What about a Ruger LC9?

I work in parts as well. A J frame you are proficent with is hard to beat. I carry a 642 and a CM9 depending on the mood. Pocket pistols are hard to beat considering the picking up and reaching and crouching.

I think the real solution here is meat, peanut butter, protien shakes, and some weight lifting....... maybe a few cookies would be good too. ;) Just kidding, and sorry, I couldn't resist............ If I stopped eating for 3 weeks, and walked 10 miles a day, I might get down to that weight.

I'm 6'3" and 195 lbs., so I'm fairly lean, but I suspect I'm just not in the same league of skinny you are. I carry a 3" Ruger SP101 IWB at the 4 oclock position. It works great for me. If you were to look into the 2" model, it may work for you. Or perhaps a LCR in the pocket. Hmmmm..... what about a Kimber Solo when they get them figured out. They have short little grips, and are in 9mm. I don't care for the Kimber name, but the Solos look nice.

Have you considered getting a custom deep carry holster? That may help with the problem, and let you carry what you really want. Just a thought.

What's your budget? Do you like your 1911? I'd recommend looking at the EMP or LW Champion. My LW Colt Commander is outstanding for carry.

I'm 6'3", 160 lbs.

What works for me is short grips for when I bend over and narrow single-stack guns so I don't look "lopsided". When you're super skinny, having a fat double-stack gun on one side, and nothing on the other side looks weird. My Kahr PM9 is invisible, and I'd highly recommend one of their .40s.

What REALLY works for me, however, if you'd consider it, is a S&W 642 in a Galco Ankle Glove. Every day for years...
