In the very near future, personal defense drones, robot guard dogs, and armed androids will be a reality. These new technologies will first be deployed by militaries, then the rich and powerful to supplement their traditional security, but will eventually become available to both modestly privileged citizenry and criminal elements.

That said, how will you respond when a drone gazes in your windows scouting for would-be robbers? Or when an android knocks on your door in the middle of the night? Or a thug sicks his robodog on you?

What changes to your equipment wil be necessary? Shotguns have fallen out of favor since the rise of the everyman's AR, but will you need to reincorporate them into your home defense plans for aerial threats? Will you need more penetration than a typical 9mm subcompact to counter armored droids? What about adding electro-optical blinding, EMP, or other jamming devies to your EDC as the market responds to demand for such equipment?

Will it be necessary to fight droid with droid and rely on your own robot defenses?

Putting aside the legal ramifications of employing drones and other dangerous automatons- which criminals are going to ignore anyway- we need to start thinking about these emerging technologies both as the threats they will represent and the opportunities they may present.
