So with the new star wars flick being released,(hope jar jar bites it) my wife has had to catch up with the storyline. With that ive had to catch up as well, not that i dont enjoy starwars at all, but there's a line you know? Anyway, while i was waving my hand at Phantom warrior today in a sad attempt to force persuade him out of a rifle (he has two, the greedy......) it crossed my mind that we ccw guys and gals share a similarity with the jedi forces.

Just for laughs, and please add on this might be fun.

The dark side features the Anti's as the empire of course with the ATF and various other agencies being the storming troopers.

We are naturally the jedi's with our 1911's glocks and sigs being our sabers of light. right? fighting the forces of evil for the good of the galaxy or backyard whichever you prefer.

Our rust bucket cars and trucks are our rickety X-wing fighters and our THR mods fill the various rolls of yoda, mace windu, obi wan etc etc. With that meaning they are all powerful, wise, etc etc.

I'm sure we also have our fair share of han solos and chebacas as well (hokey religions are no match for a good blaster right?)

What am i missing?

By the way, when i was watching i noticed that Hans blaster looks like a modified broom handled mauser? Am i right or just seeing things?

Sorry, there is a unit in the government who beat you to it, I believe it is the FBI HRT.

Hmmm

I don't recall the Empire attempting to ban lightsabers. They only wanted to kill all the jedi. I guess by disarming law abiding citizens, the antis in the long run are going to get a few people killed unecessarily. May the err.. force be with you

I always got a kick out of the large weapon Chewbacca is carrying (at least in the trash compactor scene), it is a MG-42, it looks so much like a ray gun it did not need to be modified!

Wouldn't modern Jedi be Libertarians?

Well, they both live in a fantasy world, so yeah, maybe.

LMAO. I am still registered a Libertarian, but I doubt it will be for long. Since they started down the road of Randian philosophy and abandoned the concepts of personal AND community responsibility, I find it increasingly difficult to agree with their positions. The last straw was their wrongheaded opposition to the war on terror. Of all the things to complain about the Federal government getting involved in without respect to the States' rights, national security is NOT one of them. Indeed, it is a specific duty of the Federal government, as outlined by the US Constitution.

The reason this CCW-as-Jedi idea doesn't work is that not everyone can become a Jedi. They must be innately gifted with the ability, and therefore can be considered a type of elite. They also have a propensity for taking justice into their own hands, and have the sense that they know whats best for other people, even when it goes against their will or wishes. The Jedi may be correct, but that doesn't make it right. This quality also demonstrates a sense of elitism.

What CCW effectively does is equalize all people in being able to defend themselves. Someone properly following all of the good guidelines of concealed carry for defense of life will not take justice into their own hands and not presume to act against the wishes of others because of a sense of entitlement or superiority.

Earlier today I came across this interesting article that came out before the last movie. I don't agree with it entirely, because I don't believe simple law and order should trump the individual rights of people, but it is good food for thought (even if focusing pimarily on the metaphor of Star Wars for real life).

The Case for the Empire

Notice how it went from "some yokel kid off the farm can become a Jedi hero by picking up a lightsaber, a tutor, and a pack of friends, and go defeat the tyranical empire".

to

"a special hereditary elite will defend a creaking republic of monarchies against evil capitalists, separatists, and slavering would-be emperors by doing as it damn well pleases, including meteing out on-the-spot executions."

Republicus Galacticus uber alles

Sorry. Star Wars was a great concept, until Lucas waited to become an old political man before finishing it. He should have made the 1-2-3 trillogy in the early to mid eighties, when he was still a storyteller first.

But if you just shut off your brain and enjoy the action, it is a great series of flicks!

I can't be a Jedi. I've been out on a date with a girl, unlike 99.9% of Star Wars fans.

At the midnight showing last night there were quite a few guys with girlfriends. And some of those girlfriends were awfully cute.

I for one would like to see some robe-wearin' Jedi try to fend off some 230 grain .45 caliber FMJs with one of them fancy lightsaber flashlight dealies.....
