I recently applied for my ccw permit and used the certificate from Virginia's FREE hunter education program as my qualification! This may not be news to some of you, maybe it is. I got a tip about this at a local gun show and decided to check it out.I checked the State Police websight and E-mailed my county's sherrif's dept just to be sure. Several years ago I took a handgun class and a lot of the same info is covered, plus there is some useful survival stuff too. The going rate for concealed carry classes around my area is $75-$80. Since it was free my wife and I both took it and saved about $160.Just thought I would pass along the information!

Some states also take a copy of your DD214, current military ID... I think some places (like the CMP) take your C&R license as proof of marksmanship training. Good job! It always pays off to read the laws fully before applying... why pay more than you have to for a right that is free?

Hunter Ed. program

I am not sure, probably in those counties that offer it, but then again I have been out of school for a while. I took a class given by the Va DGIF. If you check their websight you can enter your zip code and you will be given locations near you that are giving the course. The one I took was 3 nights in a row, each one 3 1/2 hrs. long to meet the 10 hr. requirement.
