How many of you put off getting a CCW permit because of concerns with this information being public record? I've heard of one story where a newspaper reporter obtained the CCW records for a particular town and published the names and addresses in an article.

Don't know, but I have heard rumors that those $200+ Online Background checks include info like that...

Not a clue if it's true...

There's one town in California that is releasing the ENTIRE permitholder file - right down to the SSN, driver's license #, date of birth, complete home address, even phone number.

:barf:

In Minnesota, it is "private data" and cannot legally be released. The law varies from state to state but NRA has tried in recent years to make it private.

The local fishwrapper did that to us years ago. Howls of protest. Even the chief of the po-po called the paper and told me that it wasn't the smartest thing in the world to do.

The reporter countered that the "public had a right to know" who was walking around with guns. The reporter who did it was also assisted in covering the courthouse when I was a LEO. I asked him if he would object to the paper printing his address and telephone number in the newspaper. He responded, "of course."

But what about "the right to know"?

Funny how the "right to privacy" that the Left invented from whole cloth to destroy America does not apply to my right to arms.:scrutiny: What if I want to possess untaxed machine guns in my bedroom or just want to keep the fact that I possess a pink card (LTCH)? Why doesn't the paladium of liberty, the right to privacy, extend to this?

I like that it's private, but if they try to release it, then they should release the salaries of all the teachers, government workers, welfare recipients etc. It's public record you know...

For a while, the Fredericksburg Free-Lance Star was running each and every CHP permitee's address. Great outpouring of rage from pro-gun country, and they stopped. But IIRC, in Virginia one can get name/address of any permitee. :fire:

The local (Fort Collins, CO) news-rag published the names of all CCW holders when we elected a Republican "pro-gun" Sheriff. I was on the list.

Literally who cares, except for that there are "limitations & provisons" favoring our electeds & their "fave boyz."

Wasn't that big of a deal to me, other than there is a state law that prohibits the publishing of names of LEOs & their affiliation.

That enough was a bit of a (hmmmmm .... & takes time to readress my breathing) "misnomer," from my [point of view. Sauce for the goose, ya know?

Nonetheless, we find later that our Republication (& "pro-gun" Sheriff) posted ALL of his/OUR CCW holders to a NICS-type listing, including pediofiles, rapists, all felons, etc.

We are listed on the same-same list as are all convicted felons.

I'm not concerned, per se, as being "posted," but it makes me wonder en especial why we are listed. when the LEOs are totally exempt. & these carry every day & are most explicit in carrying out the "lawful" duties of our state laws.

Why are they exempt from public notification? & why are we, who are private members of this community, who only wish to exercize our rights, subject to more srcuteny than are those who uphold the law?

Yup. I've been there & if anything I ever did that would behold me to scruteny = bring it on!

Guess I digress somewhat, but I'm pi$$ed about it all.

Cops are able to be "secretive," while we, the law-abiding & those who MUST request permission to carry, are not.

...... "consent of the governed," comes to mind ...

Arizona WAS that way when we first got CCW. Made traffic stops for tail light out or other such very interesting. Cruiser screen says Felon when plate is run.

I don't want the CCW list published at all. Just a way for crooks to shop for guns....carefully.

Just learned that if the phone repairman comes to your place on a work order, that work order will indicate if you have a CCW. Lookin into what other leaks are out there.

"Newspaper" (The Weekly Astonisher type) in Northern Virginia did this a couple of years ago. Did everything they could to portray the CCW holders as being reckless nuts.

Since then, when the predicted rivers of blood didn't start flowing and they couldn't crow, they haven't done it again.

In Florida, its been public record since the CCW law went into effect in 1987. Of course, there is the usual clause where LEOs, judges, politicians, etc are not listed to ensure their security.

"Of course, there is the usual clause where LEOs, judges, politicians, etc are not listed to ensure their security."

Of course, that must be for their own security - something us mere mortals aren't allowed. "... by the governed" again comes to mind.

It's not like we are any part of this.

:cuss: & </sarcasm>

I cannot be more disgusted.

& me who has worked to vote these "conservatives" into office.
