( I think this is the appropriate forum ...)

Here in central NC, the county sheriffs administer the Concealed Handgun Permit system. There is a lot of variance from county to county that should be challenged, IMO, but that would be for another post.

I had to re-obtain my CHP (the idiot behind this keyboard let it expire) and I submitted my application on Oct. 4. Today, I got a call that it was ready.

23 days into an allowed 90 period.

The previous sheriff was in office when we were trying to get our system passed, and he, and many of his minions, were of the 'blood running in the streets' crowd. It took 110 days for my first permit under him, and nearly 90 days for my renewal.

I wonder why the new sheriff can turn it around in three weeks, rather than three months :D

maybe I'm distracted, but I don't get what your saying?

Sure, Wake County (and the RTP in general ) probably has its full share of blissninnies, but it seems like Sheriff Harrison is a great improvement over Baker.

CHP turnaround in three weeks now, instead of the 114 days that Baker took when the law came into effect. No hassles that aren't in the statute. Application notarized on the spot for no fee, fingerprints done next door.

In Wake county under the former sheriff, it took me 23 days and my wife 28 days. Under the current sheriff, I've heard of 2-3 weeks being the norm, although mine wasn't much worse under the former sheriff.

I can vouch for Sheriff Harrison of Wake County. He's very pro-rights. I turned in my CCW application on Sept. 20. I got the call to come pick up my permit on Oct. 4. Elapsed time, exactly two weeks.
