I am thinking about a build on my Argentine mauser, and thinking having cerakote done on the barreled action. Anyone here ever do a 98 mauser action, just wondering how it would be on the rails. My action is buttery smooth, could the cerakote affect the smoothness.

I don't know what color I am thinking yet, I do think I'd use a bell and carlson stock in dark timer, looking if there's any better stocks for the money to. I like there stocks but are a little heavy at 2.25 pounds.

I have not looked yet if there's anyone local doing cerakote, my lgs was doing it but sold that part of the business, are there any good places to send the barreled action out to.

Sorry for making this a long question, any help or info will be appreciated. Waiting for the mauser guys to say I am crazy lol.

No experience with Ceracoat but I sprayed my 35 Welen 98 action with Duracoat in OD Green a few years back. I just taped up the inside of the action so the spray finish stayed on the outside. I like the way it turned out. The Duracoat is pleasing to the eye and adds some serious protection to the rifle. Best of all its a unique , one of a kind rifle.

I also spray Duracote now because its a lot easier to work with, and does a good job.

IMO PROPERLY done Cerakote is a better product for most firearms applications, the finished product is a bit harder than Duracoat. I used it for a while, but its a pain to work with, and when not done just right isnt as good. Ive had factory Cerakote jobs fail.

Anyway, I paint the whole receiver inside and out when doing coating jobs. If you dont theres always a chance youll get rust vains growing from the uncoated metal back under your coating. Probably far less likely where yall are, but its something to consider.

I havent had any issue with smoothness on my guns with either product. BUT if youve got a highly polished action you will likely feel a difference with any coating used.

I'd guess you can touch up easier with duracoat, or if needed remove it. I was thinking if I get a new barrel for my 09 Argentine is good just get a stainless barrel, the ss mcgowens are only 20-30 bucks more then cm.

The color contrast may look nice in wood but don't know a out a fiberglass stock.

Anyone ever use a legendary arms stock blank, there about $330 but lighter the the b&c. I don't know if there cut out for a floor plate, maybe something I would have to do.

My rifle is special to me, it's the last rifle made buy a gunsmith that was the shop Forman for p.o. Ackley, he worked with him at the collage to. The gun is in 7x57 Ackley and shoots sub 1/2 many groups in to 1/4 moa. But the shoulder has a scratch in the chamber and the neck is tight.

I have thought to just ream of our to 280ai but not positive it will clean up the chamber. The barrel is nicely marked with the smiths name( john.w. Van patten) and the cartridge name. It's in a fairly nice walnut stock, which I believe was from Richards micro fits. This was a gift to me from John only about a month before he died in 2004. The stock was never chekered either fits me nice. I am not a fan much anymore of raised check pease's.

It's really should be reblued I think his salts were weak when it was blued. I was going to rust blue it. It's still nice enough I don't bring it hunting much, more a reason for My new build ideas. Plus I don't have any tight neck brass left, I should price a 7mm neck reamer.

My want for a 280ai is getting to me, I was waiting for a fn action but have not seen any when I have money.

here the rifle now, I've since refinished the wood. I will take some new pics one day.

H-237 (Tungsten Grey) or H-227 (Tactical Grey) with a black synthetic stock. Call it "The Iron Cross".

They have a lot of colors, I remember when there were only 2 or 3 on there site lol. I am still worried about the cerakote in the action, like loonwulf said it all has to be coated. The duracoat may were in better to.

I like the guns in burnt bronze to, any dark earth tone may look good to.
