I picked up a good condition 870 recently for a good price. My face sits too low on the stock. I put on a 1/4" CheekEez pad on the stock, and it still isn't quite high enough for me. I see on Remington's site a "stock spacer" that goes between the stock and receiver. It looks to be metal. Does anyone know if it is metal or plastic? If it's plastic, I'm thinking I could cut the top half off and put the bottom half between the stock and receiver to raise it a bit (like a Benelli or my former Beretta 391). Of course I could always buy a Monte Carlo stock, but am trying to not spend that much if I don't have to.

There is another thread here about doing the same on a Mossberg pump...

IIRC, the thread is titled "A bit of Mossberg help" ...adding a spacer between the stock & receiver to adjust the drop.

I don't know about the Remington parts, but you could do the same...make a piece out of plastic or even some folded aluminum foil till you find what works.

Look at the top of the stock/receiver junction. Shims made from pop bottle plastic. I just stacked 'em until I was satisfied with stock fit. Sure improved the fit on my old Mossy waterfowler. This was done to increase drop at comb. To reduce drop as you want to do, put the shims on the other side to raise the comb of the stock.
