It's alive.....alive!

Frankenstein Jr has arisen :p

Dave McCracken, anapex, SuperReverb and I got together for a few rounds of trap. I took along the wife's 1100 as well as the 870 Express.

Dave was kind enough to make a gift of a nice mahogany monte carlo stock and a Morgan pad for the 870 and I just finished putting it all together.

The installation was a breeze, Dave. I ended up starting off with the thickest of the spacers for now as that stock was about 3/4" longer than the original. I put the Morgan at it's lowest setting and added just a touch of camber to it as you suggested. I did a few mounts down in the basement and it feels great :D

Now....about that 34" barrel....gotta call that guy tomorrow.

Thanks Dave for kind gift.

Y'all have entirely too much fun to be unsupervised. I'm gonna have to come up there and get all this unseemly activity sorted out properly one of these days.

Be very careful, Lee. I've been known to have a negative impact upon other people's behavior :p

You're very welcome, Norton. Hope it works out for you.

Lee, come on up. Don't worry, I made a career of teaching folks proper conduct in Maximum Security prisons....

Everyone needs a Frankenstein 870....

The Admiral came home last night and I showed her my handy work. She hefted it up to her shoulder and, seeing that I'd added about 2.5" to the total length of the gun remarked, "well, I guess I won't be shooting this anymore." :p

More of a reason to order that other stock for her......

A couple things....

First, with a LOP around 16" and a 34" barrel, that thing may qualify as the longest trap gun at PGC.

It figures, Norton's the longest shotgunner at PGC. About 5 feet, 18 inches.....

Like Superreverb says, on those hard rights from Post 5, watch those barrel dings on the low skeet house.

The Admiral will NOT be shooting this. Good thing she has a fine shotgun of her own.

Call Wenig after getting her fitted. You'll both benefit greatly.

Let me know if you need more spacers, I've got a few left.

Also, don't be surprised if your scores dip after all these alterations. It takes a while, maybe 1K rounds to adjust.

For comparison's sake, note how anapex was doing at first with his new scrumptious Beretta and that last round where he was grinding them out nicely. He adjusted.....

How do you define a "Frankenstein" 870? What makes it a Frank. Neither my 870 field or my TB have their original wood or barrels. It's got to be more than just the wood.

Looks like I missed out on the barrel.....I emailed the guy last night and it had been sold :(

Guess it wasn't meant to be right now.

I'm looking forward to getting back out and trying it, but it's going to be a long couple of weeks with all of the work things coming up.

Sorry you missed out on the barrel, Norton. Keep looking, I'm sure there are others out there.

If you want to see and feel what a 34" tube is like, we can arrange a meeting at PGC and I'll let you try mine out.

Ed

Thanks Ed,

I'll let you know when it looks like I'm going to be out there. I've got my eye on a couple of 30 inchers on ebay.....hopefully the price won't go nuts.....
