I got myself a nice used Super 1050 and have loaded quite a bit of rifle and 45 ACP with great success but now I want to load 9mm so I am obviously going from large primers to small. I have a few questions and can't seem to find any information on the web.

1. how do you change the swaging tool from large to small.

2. What all do I need to change the priming system over from large to small. I would assume the slide at least but also the part that pushes the primer up into the brass.

I'm relatively new to this but again I have loaded a ton of rifle and 45 ACP and loved the machine. I'm just a tad stumped on switching over to small primer ammo.

Thanks to anyone who is willing to deal with a relatively newbie

Call 1-800-223-4570 and tell them you need a large primer conversion for a Super 1050.

When you hang up, take a look at page 13 in the manual.

Personally I would just get another but once I have things just like I like it, I don’t like to tear it down and reset. I prefer to avoid Aesop’s “Tortoise and the Hare” kind of thing happening.

It’s a bit pricey but I agree with @jmorris, get a second machine - I have the 1100s, didn’t want to deal with the primer size conversion. It wasn’t too bad on my LNL, but given the cost of the Dillon conversion and the time/aggravation, I elected for a backup large primer machine. Good luck.

Yep, it's a pain to change. Here's a video on doing the primer. He really glosses over the swaging change though.

I watched a video recently on doing the swaging change on an 1100 (same deal), and you have to dismantle the bottom of the press to do it. I was thinking about converting my 1100 over to large primer. But after watching that, and knowing I'd have to switch back and forth, I decided to just blow the dust off an older progressive RCBS press I already owned and set it up for my low volume large primer needs. WAY easier to switch, but no swaging station. So I had to buy an RCBS benchtop swager. But I still came out money ahead compared to buying another 1100 toolhead and the conversion parts.

Really not interested in buying another machine ... I'm wondering if I can just disable the swaging system since I know my brass doesn't have any military in it. Thanks

I really didn’t need the swage for 45 ACP either but this really took the work out of sorting SPP brass from LPP.

I've never tried it, but you could try lowering the swager all the way and see if it is low enough to be out of the way when running the press through its cycle.

I actually talked to Dillon today, the small primer set up is only $160 and yes the guy said he just lowers the swaging tool down to the point where it barely touches the brass ... he said he does it all the time on his 1050

YouTube has videos. Sounds like a good time to detail strip, clean and lube.
