I have a 500 S&W that is stainless with a very shiny "pimpy" finish:. It is too shiny to hunt with. Anybody know how/where I can get the finish changed to something duller more Matte. Thanks CHRIS

Well, it will be expensive, and maybe not possible, but if you wanted to make it a really hardcore weather resistant hunting gun you could see if anyone will Melonite it.

It would be $$$ though, and I am not sure if any companies will do that to revolvers.

Some folks seem to have weird ideas about stainless guns for hunting. First time I've heard a brushed stainless finish referred to as "pimpy" but whatever. Any stainless gun can be bead blasted for a low glare finish, this will be the most economical. It could also be blackened with black hard chrome, black nickel, Black T, Duracoat, Aluma Hyde II, etc.

I don't think you can do a Melonite (what Glock calls Tennifer) on stainless steel but the process itself has nothing to do with the actual finish. It's a surface hardening treatment, like case hardening. Guns so-treated get their dark finish from black oxiding, not the treatment itself.

I second bead blasting, either with glass or plastic media. Try one or the other first on an inconspicuous area (e.g., a part of the grip frame that is covered by the grips) to see which will give you the more desired results. You should also detail strip it (i.e., remove all the internal lockwork parts) as the media will lodge in cavities.
