Charles Daly Hi Power

I read a little about this gun, its single action and apparantly made by Dan Wesson through a contract. Does anyone else know anything about this thing? The 24/7 express sights come standard, NICE!!! I am interested in buying one of these but here are my concerns.

1. The Daly reputation regarding pistols is not great. However, this is manufactured by Dan Wesson, which is great....any thoughts?

2. Hi Power Hammer bite, will the ring hammer solve that?

3. Daly customer service? How is it?

4. Anyone ever feel leary of carrying a cocked and locked Hi Power?

5. Will preban mags fit this thing?

6. Anyone have any experience with it?

I may be wrong, but I heard it was made by FEG in Hungary. Anyone else know for sure?

Hmmm...I thought it was made by FEG.

I hate the sights since I like shooting out to 25yrds and even beyond-I like knowing the accuracy potential of my gun,but I thought I read you have other sight options.
Otherwise I like it.

1) The Daly Hi-powers are made from FEG of Hungary parts but are assembled by Dan Wesson in the USA. Early reports about them are that they are rough and need more work. especially on the trigger

2) If you get stuck by the spur then yes, if you get pinched by the hammer shank then no.

3) Daly has a lifetime service policy but only if nobody other than Daly works on the gun. Which means their policy isn't worth much since if they can't fix it you're screwed and if you fix it your screwed.

4) Its cocked and locked. Its as safe as a C&L 1911 if that means anything to you.

5) Pre-ban mags should fit yes.

6) There are a few of them out there. Look at some posts in the hipower section of 1911forum for a review by one gunsmith.

I personally really like the express sights. I do not like reports of trigger pull and internal finish that I hear from the few daly owners. I think I'll give it a little more time.

thanks MrArchson....confirms what I thought may be true. I can't believe that warranty. Seems like they want to use it to sell a gun, but not honor the warranty. They can keep it.

1. The rumors so far are that they are FEG parts assembled by Dan Wesson. The only report I read so far (in the BHP section of 1911 forums) indicated that it needed a whole lot of work to live up to the hype.

2. The ring hammer usually makes the hammer bite worse. I don't get bit by my Browning with a spur hammer, but I get bit by the ring of the ring hammer.

3. I've heard their customer service is lacking, don't know personally.

4. Nope, I never have. Then again, Browning HPs have an inertia firing pin; I have heard (in the lastest Handguns magazine) that the Charles Daly guns do not. I'd still carry C&L, though.

5. Yes, all BHP mags should fit.

6. There was a review of it on 1911forum.com in the BHP section, the guy who bought it talked about it a bit. He sent it right off (before even firing it!) to Don Williams at The Action Works... Don W. posted all of the things he was going to do to it, and it was a looong list. Personally, if you want one, I'd wait it out. Hopefully the wrinkles will be ironed out after awhile.

Hmm, and do you really believe this marketing bullsh..?????

The average worker at the FEG Factory in Budapest earns no more than 250 USD/MONTH!

Can you believe, that the Charles Daly buy only the parts and hire American workers (at Dan Wesson) to assemble the product for American salary???

I know a guy, who shoots (tests for function) all day the FEG pistols in the factory, and he is paid under 300 USD/month.
Good for his health, although the ammo is free)

Oh, never mind. I didn't catch the post directly above. I think this gun requires far too much work for the price (my favorite gunshop has one for $460). Too expensive when I can get a real Hi-Power set up exactly as I want for another $100 or so.
