Not to diminish Theron’s intelligence – she’s apparently right up there with Sharon Stone in terms of IQ – but using her fluency in English as evidence of her smarts is a bit misleading. She grew up speaking English as much as Afrikaans, as is the case with nearly all South Africans, even the dimmest bulbs. It’s not as if she had to learn it as an adult (although she's pretty good with American idioms and accent).
I've also read that she has working knowledge of more than 20 languages, but even that's not surprising for a South African -- the nation does have 11 official languages. We Americans sometimes have a skewed view of the intelligence it takes to be multilingual -- language capacity has more to do with learning at a very young age as opposed to intellegence.
I agree with Sean Smith's point about the difference between passive antipathy and overt anti-gun activism.
