Chasing the latest thing is hard to avoid.

While there are many new guns with attractive features, used gun prices are declining somewhat. While I wait for the latest greatest to properly age, I am keeping an eye peeled for clean classics. When a spiffy S&W M-19 or a nice hi-power pops up in the dealer's case, I am more likely to hand over the con to lizard brain. It snagged a Beretta Bobcat recently, despite my intention to scale down the herd in 2020. Ah well, made it 12 days into the new year...

That's why I apply my pet-shop rule to things like cars, motorcycles, guns and yes.... dogs.

If I don't need it.
If I don't already want it.

If it does not already have a place set aside for it.... I DON'T EVEN LOOK.

No room for a dog? Won't even turn my head towards a dog-gettin'-place.

Todd.
Comparing guns and dogs is like comparing hotdogs to stake.
I have never had a gun chew up a pair of my shoes, need to go for a walk, or leave something in the yard for me to step in. ;)
But then I’m not the guy to talk to when you’re on the fence about buying a gun and trying to talk yourself out of it.
When it comes right down to it, it’s only money. If you have it and can afford it, buy it.
A while back I looked at the Glock 19 Gen5 and really didn’t care for the cutout at the bottom of the grip so, I walked away. Then I had a look at the 19X, liked it so, I bought it.
Then the Glock G45 came out. I really liked it so I bought it. It is now my favorite Glock.
I had looked at the Sig P320, but it didn’t do much for me, until I got my hands on the Sig M17. It wasn’t love at first sight, but I bought it and it’s warming up to me.
You only live once and when you’re gone, someone else will spend the money you leave behind. So if you can afford it, get it and enjoy it.
As of right now I have one dog and around 400 guns.

I paid $400 for the standard 365 with safety. The two spare 12 round magazines cost me about $70 and another $20 for the factory holster. I'm right at $500, not $1000. They make 15 round magazines fit if I ever choose to go that way. I'd get the same feel as the XL with the versatility of choosing 10, 12, or 15 round magazines and turning a sub compact pistol into a compact.

As it is it has replaced my G43 for IWB carry and with the 12 round mags has replaced the G19 for OWB carry. I shoot it every bit as accurately as the G19.

Of those 400 guns. How many do you shoot in a year? I only have about 20 and have a hard time getting around to shooting them all in a year. I actually have my grandfathers 32 colt, that he had when he was a Pennsylvania State Trooper that I never shoot. Certain guns I prefer more than others ,therefor some go out shooting more than some of the others. o_Oo_Oo_O

Well... Only but if have the money and want it LOL

I wanted to try a red Dot pistol.

So I bought one.

The jury was or for a long time on wether or not I liked it.

It's growing on me
The red dot option was the main reason I wanted to try one. I have a P365 already and it is a good concealable gun that has been reliable for me.

if you had your current for 17 years, I wouldn't say you've chased the latest thing very much in that time. hey, after that long - if you find something else you want and can afford it, get it. If it loses its luster after a while, just move it along or keep as a backup.

As you, some more then others. I qualify with at lest three different handguns a year for work. Most of my guns are range toys or part of my surplus rifle collection. The ones I use as tools get fired the most.
If you have the extra money, why not buy something you like.
I just shot a FN 509 today and I liked it. I think I will add it to my want list. Buying guns makes me happy and I plan to die a happy man. :)

My favorite carry gun is a Colt Gov't 380. Better size than the P238/Mustang, great handling. It's slightly on the heavy side since it's all steel, but acceptable.
Downside is, it's from 1984. I've never had an issue with reliability on it, but it is old enough to be concerning. I did replace all the springs a few years ago, but there's always that little nagging fear that it might fail solely due to its age.

Same here. Three of mine (G34, Ruger LCP and LC9) and two of theirs (870, Mini 14) to qualify with 3x a year. It used to be eight (M-4 and Mp5 and a G19 were qualified with monthly when I was on SRT for 9.5 years.)...

I have a bit North of 100. I’ve even bought a couple of guns that I haven’t even shot yet... but I plan to. Others get shot a lot. Just depends on the day I guess. :)

Stay safe.

It's a cute saying...but we'd all still be living in the Stone Age if everyone had that frame of mind.

I think he was referring to the fact that at 3 yo I took my tonka trucks apart with a rubber set of tools. I can deconstruct anything according to him. On the gun dynamic, the grass is always greener on the other side. Until you get there.
