Cheapest configuration for a suppressed handgun?

I would like to add a suppressed firearm to my collection and I was wondering what the cheapest way to do it is -- without sacrificing too much quality. I'm not looking at a particular price range, but obviously the lower the better. I'm even open to converting one of my exisiting handguns into one that will allow a suppressor. Here is what I have: Glock 23, Springfield XD9 sub-compact, Sig 220 ST, Kimber Custom 2.

So what are the best options, any caliber is acceptable. Thanks in advance for the advice.

I'm fourtunate to reside in one of the many states that allow their subject to own such accessories. I'm perfectly aware of the 200 transfer tax, the 4 month background check, and the other BS that comes with owning a suppressor. Now I would just like a little more information -- thank you.

Finch, with a new barrel that extends beyond the slide and is threaded, or has room to be threaded any of your existing handguns will work as far as I know. Shoot a PM to Correia; he's a Class III dealer and can let you know what the best supressor options are.

Cheapest by far is a Walther P22 and a Tactical Innovations can. I do more of those than anything else. The gun itself is under $300, and the cans are $220 on down.

On any of your centerfire guns, you just need an extended threaded barrel. Of the different center fire pistol cans, my favorite is the Advanced Armament System Evolution series. They are excellent.

What kind of costs could I expect to get a barrel threaded? I would really like to see my XD-9 configured to accept a suppressor.

You can buy threaded barrels for Glock and the Kimber off the shelf. I bet you can for the XD.

I'd advise using the Kimber because you can get subsonic (standard) .45 that will cycle, off the shelf 19110 barrels in all sorts of lengths and threaded for screw on compensators are available and with a can you'll have the quietest setup you can get by shooting subsonc through a quality can.

A suppressed .22 is cool because you can shoot it a lot for very little money. I've read nothing but praise about the AAC cans, but they run over $700 plus the tax.

I've heard that you can use a can for .223 on a .22, but never seen it explicitly written anywhere, does anyone know if that's true? I'm assuming that the opposite is not true, even if the can has enough clearance to avoid a baffle strike.

.223 can for .22 - think it works. Can't use the .22 for a .223, since you're dealing with a lot higher pressures in .223.

I would try either the P-22 idea or the 220. I have seen extended barrels for teh sig and I have read (though this may not be true any longer) that for some reason the 1911 design is not very reliable with a suppressor. At any rate, a Sig would look a lot better witht he extra barrel hanging out than a 1911.

One problem with silencers on a 1911 is the whole Browning design, with the moving barrel. A silencer changes the dynamics of that moving barrel, and can cause jams. IIRC, blowbacks may work more reliably when silenced. You get a silencer in 9mm, you can stick it on any 9mm you own - and probably on a .380 ACP.

Geronimo, many modern suppresors take that into account and have some form of recoil booster to compensate. That is one reason I like the Advanced Armament Evolution cans on centerfire pistols. They work well on 1911s or Glocks even.

I've been running a Walther P22 with an AAC "Pilot" for about a year now and the only thing i would change is possible using a Gemtech "Outback". One guy i know had some trouble with AAC's customer service.
