Western NC, it was 37 when I got in the stand. At the bottom you can see the muzzle of my savage, at the top you can see the white hair of what the muzzle covered. Remember the safety rules (I’m not being cute... stay safe out there folks).

I keep close tabs on the weather, so I knew ahead of time that it was supposed to be dreary and dripping for Saturday and Sunday of deer season, so I sat up my popup blind a few days ago. I spent yesterday in my climber, but today I'm in the popup listening to the rain on the roof while I enjoy my coffee and pop tart.
A little spike buck hurried past like he was on a mission a few minutes ago.....
I'm pretty happy to be here.

Yes that is mrs farmers outdoor carpet from our patio....it makes a great quiet floor in my blind. The chairs sink into the compost of the forrest floor.
She gets a new carpet every spring, so....yeah.

The carpet is genius.

I think it was in the mid 30's about 0500 this morning when I left the house. I'm in the NW section of Monroe county in western NYS right along Lake Ontario. Real overcast with solid dark gray low clouds. No wind or rain though. Would have been nice to see a deer on opening day but no such luck. Only deer I saw all day was running across an open field and crossed the road behind us as the wife & I drove into town just before dark.

I was out this morning in that 22 degree Wisconsin weather. Shot a doe about 2:30 this afternoon. Remington Core-Lokt in 308 150 grain.

Late posting this, yesterday was a beautiful day hunting. Sat watching around 20 deer moving about my stand. Several really nice bucks (couple of 10 pts & 12 pt) getting closer and closer. Trying to decide which one to take. Finally got a 45 yard shot thru the trees at one of the bigger 10 pts. Well, the picture says it all....just an inch or so to the left and I'd be cutting up deer today. Thank the Almighty for the opportunity to enjoy his creation.

50 this morning and warming up. I dressed light and I’m a bit cool now but when the sun is up in a few minutes I won’t be regretting what I wore. The rain is supposed to get here around noon and it will get cold then, I’m hoping for movement ahead of the front, but if that happens it means cleaning a deer in the rain. Wouldn’t be the first time but I’m hoping not to have that particular experience again.

Nice! What part of the state are you in?
I live in Altoona, I hunt usual hunt Clark county central forest, One place is Kohler Ford lane Clark county central forest. The horse trails a little further up hwy I.

I get old rubber floor mats from cars/trucks and do the same thing. With the floor mats being rubber, they don't get nasty/moldy outside.

Have a couple commercial seats in our haybale blind that swivel and contain storage underneath. Sitting on one of these and kept hearing something moving. Previous week grandson and I hunted this and he tossed his snack garbage in under the seat. Opened it and found I had a hunting partner....Chilly mornings make everyone hungry.

Rained all morning, went out at noon, sat on the lower rung of an ancient ladder stand (wood).
Platform gone, just a ladder laying against a tree.
20 mins later, a busted up 6 pt is working the edge, I let him go at 35 yards.

Proly hunt Thurs/Fri/Sat and Sun.
Not looking good.

Minimal traffic during the daylight. Been watching Whitetail Habitat Solutions videos on YT.
With bigger woods across large open fields (some distance).........aint nothing gonna come over during daylight.

Hunting pressure or a hot doe is only hope.

Beans suck. 3 sides beans this yr.
When corn from the big woods to ours, we get movement while corn up, and once harvested, the deer still are used to that movement.
Our success is way higher.

Yup
Thats why there is s sealed 5gal bucket in my blind. I keep a blanket in there, and anything else that the critters might be interested in.
