Does anyone know if all the accessories for the M-N rifles will fit the Type 53 carbine?
Was thinking of getting one and putting a Monte Carlo stock on it and making it a hunting rifle.

All but the newer model (reletive statement here) Finnish mosins should be able to drop into the monte carlo stock. Even the Finnish ones can but I think their sights are a little different size-wise.

The model 44...

didn't come into service until the continuation was was well underway. I don't believe there were too many model 44s captured by the Finns. If you have a Finn model 44, it would be really stupid to bubba it, monitarily wise. The Finn Model 44 did not have a different barrel as the Finns never made that rifle. Go to 7.62x54r.net to be sure....chris3

7.62x54r.net says that a Finn capture M44 is one of the most desireable of the Finn captured rifles. Worth big bucks. You would be stupid to bubba one.....chris3

Anyway.... It is a mosin clone and everything should fit. When your done you will have a great, reliable, tough as nails, hard hitting rifle.

I repeat......The Finns NEVER made m44 barrels..........all M44 barrels are the same with very minor differences depending on the country that made them. The stocks should be interchangeable......You are thinking about the M39 which is the best military Mosin Nagant ever made......chris3

So after ordering one of these I've been reading how they are usually in terrible condition, bores shot, etc....
I hope that's not the case but if the rifling is gone I'll return it.
I thought that since Norinco SKS's are usually in such good shape and built like tanks that these would be as well.

SOG sure takes their sweet time shipping. Been ordered since Monday and still hasn't shipped. ***?

M44 stock fits my T53 just as though it was made for it. Have to agree with some of the above, stock was so bad it wasn't even worth firewood. No cosmoline just axle grease. Good metal and bore, after cleaning for a couple of days.

Once upon a time Ivan went to China to show the little yellow people how to build M44s and brought along everything he needed to build them.
The Chinese like to name weapons after the year they adopt them, so instead of calling it just another M44, they called it the Type 53.
If it were not for surplus importers we would not have any Type 53s. When the importers went to China they found that they were scraping all of the old weapons to make cheap tools for Harbor Fright. They bought Chinese surplus weapons for scrap weight. Omega was one of the largest importers of Chinese surplus weapons.
It was in the late 80s or early 90s that the US Govt. stopped all imports of Chinese weapons. So these T-53s that are hitting the market have been in storage for many years waiting for the value to go up.
I have two T-53's with all matching numbers.
The Chinese T-53 is one of the Mosin sleepers. In a few years there will be none at the importers and the value will jump like crazy. Just 3 years ago you could buy one for $30.
If you do make mods to your rifle it would be in your best intrest to not make them permenet as in cutting or grinding. Because one day down the road you could put it back in it's original condition and have a rifle worth much more then just another Mosin sporter.

Found out today that it will ship Monday. No excuse for that.

Actually there is....
Its not like they are sitting around drinking coffee deciding weather or not they are going to work today. The firearms industry as a whole is crazy busy right now. It takes time to process and ship orders that came before yours. Also, SOG will not ship a firearm late in the week so that it does not sit on the truck over the weekend. Its amazing to me how everybody wants everything RIGHT now. Patience is a virtue. You have gone this long with out the Type 53, a couple more weeks isnt going to kill you.

Sorry. Rant over. My blood pressure rises a little when people start talking about the horrible ways of the bubba. Your rifle, your choice. But as stated above, do yourself a favor and do not alter anything that cant be easily turned back to original.

Finished it! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1334189518.464231.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1334189533.077235.jpg
Here's a before and after.
The rifle was in great shape but the wood is really bad. Also the numbers don't match.
