My wife got me a Cold Steel True Flight Thrower, a WATL practice throwing axe (so I can keep my nice one ready for league competition), and a Condor Jungolo since I have been promising to clear out the brambles at the cabin for 3 seasons now
Since I am in Louisville visiting my mother in law, I stopped by One Stop Knife Shop and picked up an Ontario Blackbird SK4 on a whim. I wanted a shorter, lighter belt knife that could work hard without a bunch of frills. My wife bought me a Damn Near Kilt Em (Utilikilt on a budget) for Christmas, and I also picked up some new belt making materials to make a big chunky accessory belt for it. The Blackbird is going to get a custom sheath to ride on the belt in place of a much larger dirk. Should offer a handy little cutter when hiking out on the trails and fit the more modern aesthetic of the kilt too
John is referring to a CRKT Batun, designed by Jason Vonnaes, his kids (read John and Ashley), our adopted grand kids sent me
Perfect!
Easy thumb hole opening frame lock that has become my right front pocket EDC
It was sharp but I made it Doc sharp and it is now my favorite whittler of canes. Holds a great edge, and polishes up nicely.
It fits my hand perfectly and the double coil is versatile and super comfortable and The leaf blade makes short work of the toughest knots.
The Blackbird is a good knife. I met Paul Scheiter and handled his SK-5 at SHOT in 2013. It's one of the few blades I've handled in which I could feel the energy without trying.

Totally agree. I went in to Kevin's shop with a $65 budget to get something cheap. I handled it and didn't even ask what it cost. Had to up my budget by about $100 more to get it Totally worth the extra money and a get edc.
No pictures yet but I ordered a Grohmann #2 and #3 from their seconds list using in-law Christmas cash. The #2 was what I wanted but added #3 because I felt bad paying 50% of the knife cost in shipping.
I’m trying to decide if I’m going to be responsible and use the cash from my parents to cover the #3 or use it for a BK16
Every Christmas the wife and I and the kids do a Secret Santa gift exchange for $100 each. You go to this website which matches you up with another family member and also gives you a wish list to fill out. I usually put down various gun parts, like grips or spare magazines, and have about 5 or 6 inexpensive knives for the Secret Santa to choose from. This year I hit the Mother Lode with knives! I received an Ontario/RAT Model 1 (pretty much for camping, backwoods walks, and general purpose use), a S&W Extreme Ops Model SWFR2S (this one is going in the glovebox of my SUV), and a Gerber Pocket Square Field Knife (kind of liked that it didn't look like a traditional folding knife when closed).
