If you are not into competition and do not want to go over $600, I would find an old Stevens 311 and chop it to the length I want, keeping it legal of course. The Savage/Fox side by side is basically a dressed up 311. Good solid reliable American made shotguns.
I shoot cowboy action competition and presently own two SKBs, a Browning BSS, and a TTN hammered double. All have been tuned for competition, all have short barrels. The TTN has the factory full chokes, the others are chopped back to cylinder bores. I prefer the open chokes for competition.
I see guys at every match struggling with Baikals and Stoegers. They don't appeal to me.
