Fron the National Shooting Sports Federation (NSSF) "Bullet Points" 7 JAN 2008:

CREDIT CARD PROCESSING COMPANY REJECTS FIREARMS INDUSTRY

REFUSES TO PROCESS TRANSACTIONS . . . Citi Merchant Services and First Data Corp. are refusing to process any credit card transactions between federally licensed firearms retailers, distributors and manufacturers -- a move which will severely limit available inventory of firearms and ammunition to military, law enforcement and law-abiding Americans.

The first company to be affected by this decision appears to be firearms distributor CDNN Sports Inc.

"We were contacted recently by First Data/Citi Merchant Services by a June Rivera-Mantilla stating that we were terminated and funds were being seized for selling firearms in a non-face-to-face transaction," said Charlie Crawford, president of CDNN Sports Inc. "Although perfectly legal, we were also informed that no transactions would be processed in the future, even for non-firearms. I find this very frightening."

To voice your concern to Citi Merchant Services and First Data Corp., please contact June Rivera-Mantilla at 631-683-7734 or her supervisor Robert Tenenbaum at 631-683-6570.

To change to an NSSF-affiliated credit card processing program, contact Payment Alliance International at 1-866-371-2273 (ext. 1131).

They claim that they cannot monitor transactions, but somehow know that there was a violation of the Gun Control Act.

If I had any business with First Data/Citi Merchant Services it'd be ended now. Hope those of you who have any business with them can end all business with them and switch over to somebody else.

I'm glad I don't have any of their credit cards.
I don't understand, they were rejected for selling firearms in a non FTF transaction? So if it was a FTF deal with no FFL involved it would be ok?

Drat - I closed my City card account last week for other reasons. Can I do it again?

I actually have a merchant account through First Data for my company. My bank has been making offers to beat their rates, and I've been poo-pooing it because of all of the software changes that would be involved in the switch-over.

I'll call the bank tomorrow....

Actually I believe (Although I could be wrong) that Citi is incorrect in stating that online handgun sales to other states are illegal. Seeing as it is a fairly common practice, anyway.

Not to play devil's advocate or anything, but has this story been vetted in any way? I noticed the NSSF article seemed to be pushing their own payment processing service, which seems like a conflict of interest.

Well, I had other reasons for avoiding credit cards, but that would be enough to convince me on its own. If there was ever an age where voting with your dollars was necessary, this is it.

CDNN doesn't sell firearms in other then face-to-face sales to Texas residents, and out-of-state sales are restricted to Federally Licensed Dealers. This is in full complience with Federal and Texas statutes. It is also commmon practice with other distributors throughout the United States.

This has nothing to do with laws, and everything to do with CTI's own policies.

So my question is why hasn't CDNN lawyered up to deal with a credit processing company that is clearly wrong in their understanding of the law.

This should take about an hour tops to resolve.

What exactly has CDNN done about it? Posting how mad everyone is doesn't help much.

There is lots of missing information here.

I'd like to know what steps CDNN took before taking the whole thing public. Is it just a misunderstanding of the law?

I refuse to do any business with Citi. Every year they dupe college students around here to sign up for their credit cards. Their game is to have you sign up for what they tell you is a mailing list for them to send you "information about their credit cards" in return for a free pizza. Instead of sending you information, they actually sign you up for the credit card.

This is just one more reason for me to hate Citi.

Uh....sounds real fishy to me.

Banks dont say no to money to push politcal messages.

Banks NEVER say no to making money guys.

Something tells me there might be more to this story. Creditors are interested in one thing and one thing only. They'd let people buy illicit narcotics if it were possible, so long as you're maintaining a balance and making payments.

Dates

The letter from CTI is dated December 26, 2007 (12-26-07) and refers to an agreement dated October 2, 2007 (10-2-07). They propose to end processing CDNN credit card charges on January 28, 2008 (1-28-08).

The National Shooting Sports Federation (NSSF) is a firearms industry trade association. They have every right, and even a responsibility, to assist CDNN in finding another card processor if CTI refuses to honor CDNN's account. In this there is no conflict of interest.

i belive several years back tom gresham said something about a credcard company called citibank terminating the account of a gun dealer somewhere.

a bunch of us called and raised cain and they caved,

wonder if the citi in this thread is related to citibank?

i have there stock
tonite

i will not tomorrow

ok...profit , but not want them x more

BOA next...................
how much profit can i live with??

First Data were some of the few that allow me to use credit card processing. I tried several other companies with lower rates a few months ago and was rejected.

I had one company that would take me if I signed a contract not to use their services for fire arms or ammo sales.
