Taking grouse with a Webly is satisfying.
I see I'm not the only one to take a grouse with a .38. Were they flying? Mine was.

I don't have a pic of the gun, but I took this deer with a .30-06 742 Carbine in 1980. The gun was 20 years old then, as my aunt bought it the first year they came out. I bought it from her in 1977.

I have hunted with several of my Mosins, the oldest being my 1916 Sestroryetsk M91:

My son got to hunt with his great-grandpa's M1903A3- it went to one of his uncles when SWMBO's dad passed.

And he also has my grandpa's pheasant gun, an H&R 16 ga. I don't have a pic of that one, but I did get a pheasant with it three years ago before I gave it to my son.

We have an old family rifle, came into the family around 1845-6. Very small caliber, shoots my .375" pistol balls pretty good, so I've never tried it on deer. That's very cool, don't let the old girls gather dust!!

Is that n El Paso Weaver on the 99? My .300 Savage 99 wears a K4.
I believe so. It's a weaver fixed 2.5, and quite old. The mounts are vintage Weaver tip-off as well. It's up at deer camp right now so I can't examine it for makers location.

Edit...Just did some reading on them. It's a K2.5, steel tube, El-paso scope. Optics are still crystal clear, and adjustments track clean. I do need to knock out that marbles long ramp sight and install an express style, as the scope is currently mounted too far back.

Model 1905 Mannlicher Schoenauer made in 1921 in 9x56 MS. Still hunters dream. I also use a Remington model14 made in 1920 in 30 Remington. Have taken deer and hogs (hogs in GA) with both.

FWIW in Ruger terminology, "RSI" means "Rings, Sights, International"
The latter term means full stock in their models.

A Ruger 77R has just rings, an RS rings and sights, and the RSI.....rings sights and extra wood ;)

Ruger did make sports, in 1022 and .44 carbine. The designation their was SP.
They added a C if it was factory checkered, which was a 20 dollar option back then (60's).

#1 rifles have other model designations (letter) but did go with the RSI for their full stock version (which had rings and sights as it should).

i think some kind of horn, the mount is a later add on with 4x leupold scope. it worked quite well and never shifted zero.

That is beautiful. Compromises have to be made. It actually is a nice looking rifle. Do you notice any difference in muzzle blast when shooting long action rounds in an RSI short rifle?

It’s loud and it recoils heavier than my 1B and 1V in 300 Win Mag, but it may still be my favorite of the bunch. It just feels good in the hands and on the shoulder. Plus, 30-06 is an absolute classic.
