I am considering getting an AR9. Technically it would be a pistol per ATF regs but since its an AR, I thought I might get more input from the Rifle forum. Between the CMMG Banshee and the Palmetto State AR9 9mm AR pistol, which would be the better choice?

Are you looking at the Colt style or Glock style?

My only experience is with the Colt style from CMMG. I bought just the lower and built my upper. It runs great with Metalform magazines. Overall fit, finish, and function will be better with CMMG.

Not saying there is anything wrong with PSA. I own quite a bit of PSA uppers and lowers and haven't had any issues.

Both have distinct differences.

The CMMG delayed radial blowback has some good advantages as far as a "blowback" action design.Delaying the bolt from opening , even slightly makes a difference, we are talking about milliseconds.. allowing the extraction at a slightly lower chamber pressure, and allowing more of the exhaust of the "smoke" out the muzzle... all that helps quite a bit with the "Bark and Blast" from a blowback... and filth.

A lot of after market triggers, may or may not work with the CMMG Bolt... I don't know.
PSA's current Gen. 9x19 bolts have an extended / "heightened" cocking ramp and length... helping considerably with aftermarket triggers proper function and ultimately, compatibility.

The PSA is full on blowback, tried and true, but ( IMHO ) benefits from a stiffer recoil spring and heavier buffer weight. The PSA ( IMHO ) ships with a usable buffer and recoil spring ( keeps the costs low, and lets face it, Given the DIY aspect of readily available AR tuning products... most all of us end up "tuning function and ergonomics" routinely. Hand grips, rails, triggers, ... Oh my. ( Lol )

I have a PSA Colt pattern, and love it. ... and when PSA sold the Metalform mags for cheap... that was a distinct bonus.
It has been very reliable and after tuning with the heavier buffer and recoil spring, and polishing of feed ramps ( I do that to every AR ) ... it has proven to be a fun and reliable firearm.
Precision is much better then expected from the nitrated OEM barrel... I have no problem hitting the 10 ring at 100yds. ( RD sight and magnifier... Lol, older eyes make "Open Sights" less desirable to me. )

For me... both are great choices... sure to give you a life time of enjoyment.

If you have the money for the radial delayed CMMG I would strongly consider that. Especially if you have a desire to suppress it then no question the CMMG.

you will be into more proprietary parts though.

I have an AR9 and there is a significant buffer weight as well as port pop when using a suppressor.

I would rather use Glock style mags, though I do have some Colt mags since I do own a 9mm Colt AR carbine.

I would go with the CMMG RDB system (complete pistol). The RDB will shoot a lot smoother than a blow back will. You can make other lowers work with the CMMG RDB uppers but its way simpler just to go with their lower designed for the RDB system. The magazine height is higher for a regular blow back upper than it is for the RDB upper.

If you are wanting regular blow back, then nothing wrong with PSA Glock pistols.

I just sold my AR9 pistol to build a new one with the CMMG radial blowback parts.

My old one was built off a PSA colt style lower and worked well. The reason I decided to upgrade to the CMMG is that the recoil from a blowback AR9 is suprizingly abrupt from the heavy bolt and buffer hitting the back of the buffer tube. I ran a extra power AR10 recoil spring to calm it down. I’m hopping the radial delayed blowback results in less recoil and sight disruption. I loved my AR9 though and shot it all the time which is why I justified investing more money into the concept.
