Finally got the 853 to a dedicated 10M indoor range today with my son who's home from grad school. We were shooting penny size dots with iron sights OFFHAND.
Two errent shots were taken with the 46m pistol

What you got there is a nickel, cowboy. Lol , nice shooting! Ive been wanting to take my pellet gun to the range for sight in. Can't wait for the looks and comments!

Can't pull anything over on you - lol
Actually I didn't have a penny but the dot is smaller the a nickle, bigger than a dime.

Just printed off the CMP instructions for trigger mods tonight and headed to the workshop. Took 1-1/2 hours to tear down the gun complete the mods, assemble and shoot a test target. Only thing I found was now the safety won't engage. I'll have to disassemble and remove a little more material for clearance. Trigger went from 4# and LOTS of pre travel to 2#11oz and NO pre travel. Never touched any of the springs...yet

How was it taking it apart and working on it? I have an 853 and it's leaking air after being pumped. Think that it needs seals, it's oiled well.

If you google
Daisy 853 trigger job
Its the CMP link to a PDF file. Great pics and detailed instructions. Actually fairly straight forward and easy to take apart. Just be careful removing the trigger housing side plate cause there are several small springs inside. If you're doing a seal kit you dont have to take the side trigger housing apart.

There's actually 2 mod plans out there. The CMP one modifies your existing parts, the other you order Model 888 parts from Daisy that already have the adjustment option.

Pulled gun apart to look at the safety. No apparent proble.s so cut 2-1/2 coils off the plunger spring to lighted the load on the sear and put back together. Safety works as it should except if you remove too much pre travel there is enough flex you can pull the trigger hard and get it to discharge. Checked trigger pull and its at 2#8oz. light enough for the gun it is. Did shoot 10 shots at a TQ 1/5 target scoring 85. :)

Just ordered parts yesterday, $5.50 got me the trigger guard and trigger group for the 888.
Ordered 2 sets and a pump rebuild kit for the 853. Total bill was something like $13 + actual shipping.

"have an 853 and it's leaking air after being pumped"
Is the seal leak common? I always want a peep sight M853 for indoor practice but don't trust the seal on single-stroke pneumatic. Springer is hold sensitive, CO2 only good for 20 shots then velocity drops.

Sesl leaks arn't normak but it is a wear part. Pump rebuild kits are under $5 from Daisy and are easy to install.

I know it is single pump, but what would happen if attempt to pump more than once? cause any damage?

AAHHH!!!! Yes!

(That was code for... "Don't do it").

If you haven't gotten one yet, they are a load of fun. You should just get one. My wife and I each have one, and they get used.

There's a chance the MV would increase from a second pump if the pump arm wasn't fully opened to allow the piston to vent the compressed air stored from the first pump. But there are problems with doing this. It's going to increase wear and would be hard on the pivot points, it could cause an O-ring to blow out, and the increase in MV will not be consistent. So there's just no good reason to do it.

I just got one from CMP North Store this morning, I did not even think of doing more than one pump but the guy behind the window said don't do it, they tried, it won't work when he handed the rifle to me. I just laughed but on the way home I wondered exactly what would happen! I have a Daisy 717 single pump pistol for 30 yrs but I've never tried multiple pumps!;) I don't know if there is mechanism preventing silly people doing it by mistake or someone attempts to do silly things! By the way, my 717 has been in storage for a long long time, took it out couple weeks ago and it still works and accurate!
EDIT- Now I remember I did try the silly thing on my 717 many years ago by opening the lever after the first pump. The level would slam back when opened and release all the air!

I bought one at the CMP North store a year or two ago. I shoot it a lot at home and love it! I get good groups, and I'm sure that I'm more accurate when I go and shoot my rifles offhand.

I bought one from the CMP awhile back, it's an awesome shooting rifle but the stock was beat all to hell. I decided to redo the stock. At first I was going to do a camo dip but my experiments didn't go very well so I decided to just go with a stain and a satin finish. I didn't really like the plastic stock extender so I made one from some beech I had in the shop. 20180418_093958.jpg
