CO State Senator Evie Hudak Resigns In Face of Recall

The recall does seriously inconvenience Hudak, who is now unemployed. In that sense, it's a warning to any who follow her agenda. That much is good.

On the other hand, her resignation is completely expected. The Dems were not going to risk losing control of the state Senate.

If Diane Feinstein resigned, but was replaced by a Democrat, would that also not be a win?

Losing her seniority and the power that goes with it would be a huge blow to the Antis and her supporters.

I imagine that losing Hudak's seniority does have benefits.

Would be nice for the CO contingent to chime in here with their assessment. Hard for me to take this as other than positive. If they even took the possibility of losing seriously enough to do this pre-emptive move (which is not a common one), that's a great sign. Perhaps the situation will persist (or get even better) for another 11 months, so that some sort of backlash will express itself at the polls.

i think it's a huge win

it shows they know the voters would have ousted her.

all the politicians i know personally seem concerned about their personal fortunes and careers at least as much, and usually moreso, than that of their party. they were ALL served notice that the first recall effort wasn't a fluke. it can happen again. and again. and again.

regardless of what they say in interviews to keep their base happy, I'm pretty sure they're getting the message.

But shouldn't this serve to make the legislators think twice before voting for anti-gun legislation? I would think that would serve as some deterrent.
Leftists and antis are rarely deterred. They just bide their time and use the next crisis or mass murder incident to further their agenda. This is nothing more than a small bump in their road to dictatorial rule.

Please do not forget what Hickenlooper did. After Aurora he came out with a public statement that 'now is not the time for more gun laws.' After the election in 2012, before Newtown, he stated 'now is the time.'

They are well aware of the possibility to lose elections by talking about guns, that is why he made the right noises before the election. He said exactly the right things to calm our fears. The amount of success we've had even before scheduled elections has surprised them.

As an active member of the Larimer County Republican Executive Board I can tell you that her action was completely expected and legal. I would not get excited about changing any laws because if the shoe was on the other foot you would be blowing your collective stacks at such suggestions. I am also on the 51st State House District vacancy committee and we replaced a resigned Republican RINO a few years ago with a good man so the law does have its positives. If you want to make a difference get involved! Go to your Caucus next year, get yourself elected to a committee position and learn how the process works. It is certainly a fairer process than the that of which threads get locked on this site. At least you can face your detractors.

This is good news to me, a shot across the bow, of the Legislature if you will. Our Governor is doing the "Ah Shucks" tour around rural areas of the state trying to sooth the many feathers he ruffled by signing all those bills into law, even knowing they were vague, poorly written, unenforceable, and against the wishes and advise of the vast majority of Colorado Sheriffs. There are also the laws adversely affecting the coal industry which is kind of a big deal to the thousands of folks who depend on it for their livelihood. I guess someone finally showed him a map of Colorado and explained that he works for all of us not just those in the Denver Metro area. Not sure if he can dig himself out of this one.:scrutiny:

I've not heard of the anti's recalling a pro gun guy. Guess that in itself is positive.

Congrats to the guys that put in the time and effort. You help us all.

Her resignation was truly gutless and from what I've heard she wanted to face the recall, but was convinced to "take one for the team" by her fellow Dems. What we should take away from this is that third party candidates are poison for our cause. That's how we ended up with her, Morse, and Gov. Chickenlooper. You can bet that her replacement will be another looney lefty with a chip on their shoulder. We need to infiltrate the republican party and move it to the right, much like what the communists have done to the Democrat party over the last thirty years.

I think it is only a win IF you can keep the momentum until the next election AND not have the vote split like last time and wind up electing another Lib anyway.

No, it still gives the majority to the people that passed the draconian Anti laws in CO.

Only an effective recall replacing Hudak would have taken the majority from the Antis.

This was an "effective recall" in the sense that this was absolutely going to be the outcome no matter what we did. The Democrats always had this "out" available to them by law, and that was known even before Morse and Giron lost their seats. As such, now that the Dems know they're likely to lose such a recall election, there's no way they'd risk losing the senate to do so.

Personally, I consider this a good thing. If this is the mood in Colorado (even in districts that elected Democrats last time) I think it means we have a GREAT chance of taking back the majority in the next election. And, honestly, unless we gain the majority in the house, senate, and governor's office, we have no chance of getting these laws overturned by our legislators (I believe we still retain the option for a voter referendum, and I'm hoping that process starts soon).

We need to infiltrate the republican party and move it to the right...

I'm not meaning to turn this into a political party debate but as someone that considers himself a Conservative Moderate and finding myself becoming more Libertarian (not to be confused with "liberal") , I disagree.

As Tommy Lasorda said (not an exact quote)

Every team wins 1/3rd of their games and every team looses 1/3rd of their games.

Its the other 1/3rd that makes the difference as the whether its a winning season or not.

The republican party needs to reach out to the middle people. They already have the people on the right. The people on the right aren't going to leave the GOP because they reach out more to the middle people. They cant leave the GOP because they don't have anywhere else to go.

It's a win for this reason: Michael Bloomberg unequivocally promised to "protect" the Democrats in CO who voted for his package of laws.

He failed, and that diminishes his influence.

Our pathetic prostitute of a Governor, John Hickenlooper, also promised the Dems that he was 100% behind them and he would stand by them no matter what. Of course, that was when Bloomberg was riding high and, according to my sources, willing to throw big money into Hickenlooper's dream of being President.

A humbled Hickenlooper actually asked out-of-state antigun groups to stay out of the Colorado recalls. As far as Hickenlooper's national aspirations, a part of his state has voted to secede, his administration has seen the first successful recalls in Colorado history and he's been caught lying about his relationship with Bloomberg before the gun vote...great platform to launch yourself into national prominence, Hick-ster! So half of his statements were true... he is behind them, hiding.

Several of the Dem gun-grabbers are on extremely shaky ground for 2014...Rep. Mike McLachan of Durango was elected with a narrow margin after he made a point of saying in his campaign how he supported the Second Amendment. When I told him to his face that in election season I would be doing free talks and classes in Durango and call him out as the liar he is, I thought he was going to (borrowing a phrase from Clint Eastwood) vapor lock right there. He kept saying he'd debate me...I told him, that LOL, I wasn't running for office.

Rep. Joe Salazar became a national embarrassment to the Colorado House of Representatives and his law firm for his ridiculous comments about rape and how women are too emotional to have guns, lest they "pop out that gun and you pop...pop a round at somebody."

And on and on.

Lots of work remaining to be done, but it has been gratifying to see the Bloomberg operation crash and burn.

Some of you guys are thinking as non-Coloradans. This old girl was one of the worst of the bunch, and having her gone is a big win for Colorado politics.
More important, it's a signal to other politicians of her ilk -- kind of like hanging a dead coyote on the fence as a message to the others.

I can hear it already from the Dem candidates.... "I'm a gun owner, I'm a hunter, I support the Second Amendment."

Yeah, they've got Grandpa's old single shot .22 in the back of the closet with cobwebs in the bore, Grandpa showed them how to shoot a racoon raiding the trash back in 1991, and (Don Adams voice) "Oh yes, the ooold I support the Second Amendent trick."

I wouldn't be surprised to find a bunch of them joining the NRA, too.

"Oh, yes, I'm an NRA member !"

I know this is The High Road and these are technically unwarranted assertions, but...

...we've seen it before.

I'm beginning to think a good test for a politician's suitability for office would be to field-strip a 1911 or M9 or M4gery.

Or at least be asked what these things were.

Two-faced career politicians disgust me.

The big trick is to maintain that disgust through to the elections.

I'm not signing this one so nobody will know who posted it.

Not a strong win, but still a win. A recall election would have almost guaranteed a Republican filling the seat. Resigning just leaves it open to either party.

As someone else said, these stupid laws won't get repealed until the Governor is gone. I am glad Hudak is gone. She was the worst of the worst. Sure she'll get a job with Bloomberg, but that may be back in her home of New York, not a good, and decent place like Colorado.

Buh bye Evie.

The people of Colorado should file more recall petitions. The Democrats won't risk a party flip and will simply force the challenged congressperson to resign without a fight.

And I own a chunk of Parmesan cheese, so that makes me a gourmet chef!

I had a nightmare last night that the Dems re-appointed her.

Is that a possibility, or was that just something I ate?

Maybe that's why, according to some, they're continuing with gathering petition signatures...?
