I believe the part where Helmke said he would try to trip and manually disarm a knife-wielding assailant as well as try to use reasoning, was a really good indication of Helmke's total ignorance, even stupidity, about self defense issues.

Go ask a police firearms instructor, what the proper procedure is for dealing with a knife-wielding assailant.
