OR legalese
Im going to be applying for my CHL soon and just went over the counties FAQ (Washington County, Oregon) and it had this to say:
Oregon Law states: Possession of a Concealed Handgun License does not authorize you to carry a firearm on any of the following properties: Any Federal facility. (i.e. Federal Court House, Post Office, Social Security Office, in airports, and on airplanes). This does not prohibit the carrying of firearms on federal lands, other than designated wilderness areas, incident to hunting or other lawful purposes. National Forests marked or posted by signs prohibiting all firearms. You may not carry a firearm concealed while upon an Indian Reservation/Indian property without the written permission of the tribal judge. This may also apply to certain casinos that are on the Indian lands. In a courtroom, jury room, judge’s chambers or the areas adjacent thereto that the presiding judge determines should be free of firearms to ensure the safety of the litigants, court personnel, witnesses and others. Any private business or private facility where a condition of being on the premises or facility is that you not possess a firearm. If you are apprehended with a gun on any of these premises, your concealed handgun license will be seized and revoked.
In short you can carry anywhere but a federally controlled building or piece of land and Indian Reservations are there own jurisdictions. If you have a CHL you can carry at school, you can carry at your childe's school and you can carry at work. The ONLY legal way to stop you(as i have been led to understand) is by posting clearly that no one is allowed to carry a firearm on the premises. I know this is an issue just waiting to be enforced as many companies in Oregon (Including a number of 24 hour convenience stores !!!!) prohibit employees from carying weapons yet do not post signs prohibiting customers from carrying.
It would probably be worth your while to look up the statutes in your own state, your employer may be violating state law and simply not know it. One of my previouse employers was unaware that the restriction was illegal, they employee handbook was created from a sort of template and it hadnt occured to managment to have the thing checked out.
Oh, this is my first post to the board; Hi Everyone!
