$350 OTD is a good price. I need a pre-woodsman and a Series 2 to complete my small Woodsman collection. The pre-Woodsmans aren’t common and most are either in pretty rough condition or go for double what you paid.
HECK YEAH!!!!!! THAT'S WHAT I WANT TO HEAR!!!!! Thank you, you just validated what I thought the gun was worth. I was thinking AT LEAST $600.00. All my looking and research is saying the same price as yours.
I knew the pawnshop owner didn't know what they had because he was using 2nd series prices to determine his. He didn't know what to make of it without it having "The Woodsman" right before the slide.
After walking away for 24 hours I knew I would be kicking myself if I didn't pick it up. And regardless of what it is worth it is a super cool pistol.
I really appreciate the link Todd sent to me the other day. I have been looking at it a lot. For sure one of the coolest finds about this gun is the fact that is 100 years old. :what:
(My serial # is 17054 which puts it about 1915-1920)

The original magazine prices are absolutely nuts, maybe in the future I will pay $100+ for a mag? But not now. I found a good reproduction from TripleK (Magazine brand) on Brownell's for $38.99. Just from the pics they show, I can see a few different things that are better. We"ll see If it fixes my feeding problem. Anyway thanks again!!!

My context for the inquiry was based on my impression that you were considering the purchase of the Colt.

Anyway ... the asking of $399 surprises me - as in lower that expected. Your final of $350 is/was excellent.

Congratulations.

The grips are probably - at least - not as issued but the right one being checkered over the ghost of a diamond is intriguing. Yours being so early, it'd take a Colt's expert and even then, it's kind of subjective.

Your bore is quite nice for its age and the wear usually associated with a much shot/carried pistol.

Here are some pictures:
Grip insides from your era of production and two-tone nature of a factory mag. LOTS of reproduction mags are nicely mimicking this two-tone Colt's pattern so be careful about paring too much noting all aspects of a factory magazine.
The period mag's; follower, base attachment and base markings.
How the screw should present on the right side when snugged up. This gives you an idea about; screw, grips and escutcheons and diamond detail IMG_1316.JPG IMG_1321.JPG IMG_1322.JPG IMG_1324.JPG IMG_1325.JPG .

My bad, I should have put it in the description the first time.
Thank you so much, I couldn't be more stoked about my find.

Todd.
Sweet, my brother agrees with you, The bore looks really good for its age, he said "It was probably just a holster gun"
It kinda looks like someone wanted to do a little woodworking themselves and checkered the dimond for... Idk more grip?
It also looks like they carved there J initial Into the back of the grip.
It was very difficult to take a picture of it. Here are a few more detailed pics of them.
I REALLY appreciate the pro tip on the mag reproductions. It would have been a real let down to see a non-original mag after paying $100+.
I will definitely be looking out for those attributes on the mag when I come around to buying one. A+

The checkering over diamond is really interesting , probably a way to make a replacement panel more or less match it's original partner?
Adds to character , and nicely done. And - great images.
