One of the local dealers I frequent just got a Colt 357 (pre-Trooper) in. It is a little out of time, but has little more than some holster wear on it.

About how much do you all think it is worth?

Oh boy, being a "little" out of time can be a big, big problem. Depends what is causing the timing problem.

Many of us say the model 357 is a pre Trooper, but this gun had the same frame and works as the Python. The parts are hand fitted. Finding someone to fix the timing, someone who REALLY knows what they are doing, will be difficult.

Value maybe $350

That is about what I was thinking. If I could get it fixed it would be a nice revolver. I know that I would have to get it timed and tuned before I'd shoot it.

From what I can tell it is a problem with the hand and the ratchet.

Colt will do an excellent job of repairing your .357 at a reasonable rate, and in a very reasonable length of time.

There aren't many people around who I'll recommend to work on the older Colt action.

NONE is better then Colt themselves.
They know what they're doing, have all the needed parts, and will do it RIGHT.
Cost is very competitive, and turnaround is MUCH faster then any other.
They'll give you an estimate before doing anything.

Value of an original 357 depends entirely on actual condition, and whether it has the original grips.
Like all Colt revolvers, 357 prices are going up fast.

Colt only made around 15,000 357 models between 1953 and 1961.

I figured that Colt would be the best to work on it. The one guy I trust to do the job around here retired this year.

Thanks for the info.
