Noob here again. Need help from all of you experienced folks.

I have a 2014 [CM] Pietta 1851 Navy steel .36 revolver. I am interested to see, if viable, installing a longer 1860 Colt Army trigger guard/backstrap/grip on this pistol. I like the balance of the 1851 Navy (even with the Pietta "tail") but my pinkie finger is not fully on the grip (skinny fingers/no ham hands with long fingers/wide hands: think piano player :scrutiny:).

(That is the reason I replaced my Ruger SP101 factory grip with a Hogue Monogrip, as a comparison.)

I have read on many BP forums (and researching parts lists/catalogs: VTI, Taylor's, etc.) that some of these parts will interchange (as a group within the model), as well as the mainspring being the same, for starters.

I would also like to know if these similar part groups from Uberti will interchange insofar as Pietta revolvers. If all of the screw holes line up, I don't mind a bit of fitting.

If a possibility, this will add to my project idea for 4 grip/TG styles (1851 Pietta Navy, 1851 Colt London original profile, 1851 Navy squareback TG, and 1860 Army profile), in addition to a shoulder stock fitted to a long wood case.

Maybe a pipe dream, but I'm always the optimist (except when it comes to politics).

Thanks in advance,

Jim

The back straps and trigger guards on my Pietta '51 Navy's, and '60 Army's are interchangeable. One year I ran a pair of Navy's for cowboy action shooting. The next year I wanted to run a pair of Army's, but my thumbs had a hard time reaching the hammers so I swapped out the parts and they ran fine. I'd like to buy a new set of parts for the Army's so I can put the Navy parts back where they belong!

Pietta parts are interchangeable.
For example, I like Navy grips, but shoot Pietta 1860 Armies.
All my 1860s wear Pietta Navy grips.

Uberti TGs have a different angle to the screws and will not just bolt on.
Some fiddling must be done.
I have Pietta 1860s with Uberti Thunderer grip frames.
I had to play with the angle of the screw holes with a drill bit to get them to fit.

Very good to know.

You guys are getting me very excited about doing this, but I am awaiting for someone to reply: "hell, no!"

Thanks to all!

As far as I know the parts will interchange if you are using the same manufacturer and the same frame size. Colt Army & Navy frames being the same size. Pietta fits Pietta and Uberti fits Uberti. I would not try to force the marriage of unlike grip frames and TGs. My Pietta brass framed 44 "Navies" and J H Dance revolvers sport Pietta Colt Army grips that I swapped their Navy grips for.

I really really like the looks of the grip frame on the "Navy" .44 Engraved steel revolver from Pietta and could see that frame on my Pietta navy yank civilian .36 steel frame with the brass grip frame. Since that frame is cut for a stock and there is a 12" bbl out there for the .44 ...... a swap just makes sense to what passes for my mind.
