My Colt Combat Elite in .45acp. I changed the trigger, hammer, thumb safety, barrel bushing and plug, gave her a nice trigger job (4lbs), and new custom cocobolo grips with silver colt horse inlay. She's a nail driver now!

Wow, that's one sweet looking customized Colt Combat Elite! I'm definitely liking those grips too! One of my favorite 1911s in my carry rotation is a Colt Lightweight Government Model. A little bit lighter to carry over the steel frame models and just balances and handles perfectly for me.

Very nice piece sir! I do like the lightweight frames for carry. Even more so the CCO with lightweight frame!

I have been real pleased with mine. Unfortunately I literally screwed my grips. While thoroughly cleaning the gun I stripped it down and did not remove the grips. I hit it with some Powder Blast and as soon as I did I knew I was so screwed. I stripped the PlastiKote right off the grip and blistered it.

My temporary fix is a set of basic Colt grips I had laying around but I actually liked the original grips.

One of my dumber moves at it best. :) That said, the gun is a hell of a shooter and not bad looking either. I really like the grips you found, they compliment the gun well.

Love the grips! Nice looking pistol.
We've all seen beautiful, "I'd kill for..." pics of Colt 1911s, but that grip is what immediately caught my eye also. And the horse inlay is, IMO, the most aesthetically-appealing thing about it; the eye reflectively zooms on in it.

Thanks brother! That's exactly why I bought them. When I saw them I knew they would be perfect for this pistol. In my opinion, sets the pistol off perfectly.

^ Nice! Bannockburn's Lightweight Gov't. model; yet another beauty I'd kill for... (Is it getting hot in here?...or it just me?)

When I went looking for a new 1911 I literally had dozens to choose from at the LGS I went to. The Lightweight Government had the best balance and handling of all the ones I tried out. I later went back and picked up a regular Government Model mainly for use as a range gun and for the "100 Years of Service" inscription on the slide.

Hi Ron:

If your still looking for replacement factory grips, I noticed these recently while researching grips for an old GCNM that recently came back to me after 36 years!

Many thanks for passing that along. Wish they had the "coming soon" image but I will keep an eye out with Brownells. Still can't believe I did that. The instant it hit my grips I had that sinking feeling and knew I screwed up. :)

Much Appreciated
Ron
