I was looking at specs between the LE6940 and LE6920 and couldn't find a difference. Can anyone point it out.

Also is this a Law Enforcement only rifle? Is that what the LE stands for?

Im kinda interested..

6940 has monolithic upper rail system and folding front sight. A 6920 is pretty much a base AR15 with the standard delta ring attachment hand guards and a fixed front sight post.

Nope anyone can buy them. The LE series rifles are just marketed as Law Enforcement rifles. Older ones have LE/Mil only roll marks but are still civilian legal.

I was faced with the same decision awhile back. I went with the LE6920, simply because if I ever wanted to change the handguard on it I can. You can't say the same for the 6940, your stuck with the way it comes since it is monolithic.

Turning back the clock, for a number of years, Colt rifles for the mass market had a number of "non-standard" features, including odd size pins to hold the upper and lower together, a steel insert in the lower to prevent installation of "evil" parts, and no bayonet lug or threaded muzzle; they did some of this in a vain effort to not only comply with, but to go beyond the Clinton AWB ban and placate the "antis."

Didn't Colt originally assign the "LE" designation to distinguish normal-featured AR-pattern rifles from the oddball ones meant for the mass market?

This is now moot, since the Federal AWB expired years ago and no longer applies. (Some state & local restrictions still are on the books.)

Yeah looks like ill go with the 20 when the cash is available and the laws haven't changed. Thanks everyone.
