Colt Python DA trigger problem

I purchased a new Colt Python a couple of months ago. From the get-go, it had an occasional problem with the DA trigger.

When I pull the trigger on DA, the hammer sometimes gets about 3/8" into its rearward travel and stops; I am unable to pull the trigger any farther. I've noticed that I can induce the same malfunction by gently resting a finger on the cylinder to give it the slightest bit of resistance when turning. Once I get the malfunction, if I release the trigger, and pull the trigger again, the problem usually (but not always) goes away.

Has anybody had a problem like this? What did you do to fix it? Does this sound like something I can fix at home, should I send it to a competent gunsmith, or does this sound like something that needs to be sent back to Colt? I'm new to Colt revolvers, and only own a few S&Ws, a Ruger, and an NAA, so am I doing something wrong when shooting?

Just a few notes: This never happens with SA. The gun is new, not just new-to-me, so there are no previous owners that could have done DIY trigger jobs or maintenance on it. It's had about 200 rounds of .357 range ammo out of it, but the problem was manifesting itself from the first box of ammo I put through it. I know that not letting the trigger reset can prevent the trigger from being pulled again, so I have been careful to make sure that I was fully releasing the trigger after firing. When inducing the malfunction by resting my finger on the cylinder, I am not pushing hard on the cylinder or trying to hold it in place, just resting my finger on the side of the cylinder (no more force than a person scrolling through their social media feed). Finally, I have never purposefully induced this malfunction when the gun was loaded (I'm not THAT stupid); only when I have made double-sure that it is unloaded and the gun is pointed in a safe direction.

I've attached a picture showing the hammer and trigger at the point where they stop moving rearwards.

Loose sideplate screws have been a thing with those in the past. Carefully check them with a hollow-ground screwdriver- don't bung them or Colt might claim someone was messing with the internals....

If they are snug and the problem is still present, send it back to the Mothership.

Also, are those the original grips? If not, maybe take them back off and inspect to see if they are rubbing/ binding the mainspring.

What NightLord said.

Also, pressing on the cylinder might aggravate
the problem of loose screws by further
impeding the movement of the hand.

1) These aren't the original grips... but the problem existed before I swapped the grips. I haven't really noticed a difference between original and aftermarket, but I've only put ~100 rounds through it with each.
2) One of the screws (left side of the gun) was a tad more 1/2 turn loose, but after tightening, the malfunction persisted
I'll look into getting it back to Colt.
Thanks for the advise, guys.

I agree that it definitely sounds like a manufacturing defect and it needs to go back to Colt. Colt warranty repairs are running about three weeks right now. They’ll issue an RMA and a shipping label right away.
