Hi Folks,

Does anyone out there have a Colt Single Action Army revolver (or replica) with a 4-3/4" barrel and both .45 Colt and .45 ACP cylinders? If so, how does the point of impact differ when you shoot a .45acp 230 gr round out of your gun versus when you shoot a typical 255 gr .45 Colt round?

I'm curious because I'm thinking about getting a replica SAA with both .45acp and .45 Colt cylinders. I'm wondering how much the point of impact will differ if I file down my front sight for a .45 Colt load, but then shoot .45 acp rounds out of it. Do the .45 acp rounds shoot higher, lower, or are they the same elevation-wise?

Thanks!

I Own A Colt Saa 45acp/45colt Convertible.

It was a factory convertible issued with a 45ACP cylinder and a spare 45COLT cylinder. It shoots tiny bit high with 45COLT ammunition and a tiny bit low with 45ACP ammunition. I have never bothered to touch the sights as they're fine as is and it shoots very well indeed with both cartridges.

Every gun will shoot a little bit (sometimes a lot) differently.

The only way to know will be to get one and try it yourself.

Judging by whichever caliber shoots closest to POA just make a mental note as to how much high or low to aim when using the other.

Just rememebr that filing a sihght is a permanent solution. If you ever decide to switch loads within that same caliber then all will be for naught.

I adjust my adjustable sight revolvers for whatever load Iplan on shooting the most. From then on I treat is as a fixed sight weapon. I just aim differently when using other loads.
