I even threw in a 1911 and a Dance and Brothers.

Uberti Walker, Uberti 3rd Model Dragoon, Pietta 1860.

The Walker and the 1860 had some rebluing done and the 1860 got some tweaks.

As you can see, there's quite a size difference between the three of them. The Walker is the longest of them all, but the 1860 is in the middle for length. The Dragoon is in the middle for weight, but has the larger grip. The Dragoon's cylinder is only 1/8" shorter than the Walker's, the 1860's cylinder looks tiny in comparison. Using a digital camera at that close range messes with the field of vision.

The Black Spot,
You seem to keep trying to find that as a difference:).

I can guarantee you they are NOT. That is a result of the "perspective" he mentioned created by the proximity of the camera to the cylinders for the close up shot.

The difference is length. (Well the cylinder for the 3rd Model has the newer bolt stops with lead-in we are now familiar with, but otherwise just length.)

Stupid digital cameras..unless you set it up 5 feet away and use the zoom, it looks like you see it through a fisheye lens..and then the flash doesn't work as well..
It's a Pietta Dance and Brothers in .44. I don't know if the real ones had a larger grip in .44 or not, but that grip is so small, my pinky hangs in the air. I reckon Pietta used a .36 grip and .44 parts for everything else.

Hey wittzo,

Thanks so much for posting the pictures; the cylinder comparison is especially enlightening. I assume from left to right: Walker, 2nd or 3rd gen. Dragoon, Army?

Anyway, I couldn't resist purchasing a new Dragoon from Dixie. It's scheduled to be delivered on Monday, pretty cool gun to add to the collection!

Someone started a "show us your .45's" thread on a modern gun forum, so I posted put my .45 Colt conversion cylinder in my Walker and posted this:

Here's a good comparison photo: wish it was a Super Companion, but it's just a .22Mag:

Makos, want a 2nd model dragoon, but I will have to wait some before I can get one.

Excellent...

Keep watching the Texas Jack site which is the storefront and retail outlet for Cimarron Arms. They will put the guns they have in stock on sale.

Right now they are at regular price (for them at least) of $350. You are in Arkansas so you'd pay no sales tax and currently a shipping charge of $15 for ground. With Percussion Pistols you can ship ground since the Feds don't technically consider them firearms. And it can be sent right to you. It's cheaper not to pay sales tax. I have seen them as cheap as $339.95 (I think it was 1st models they were overstocked in) and they had a special going on the shipping. I believe a buddy in Colorado payed under $350 after shipping.

I don't know where you live in Arkansas but your sales tax is probably from 7% to 8%. But you would have had to find one at about $306 to beat that price after you paid your sales tax.

You can sign up with Texas Jack's to get email notification of sales. Things like the big pistols (unless they are "Walkers") don't move as fast and they will clear them out because Uberti will be sending more in their contracted shipments.

Looking forward to hearing you got one...

The best to you,
Mako

P.S. Internally the Uberti 1848s are almost the same ("Walkers" and The "Whitneyville-Dragoons" share the Walker V-Mainspring) . They even have the newer flat spring in the 1st model which didn't show up in the Colt's until the second model. I'd have to go over mine again but I think the only differences between the numbered models is the Cylinders, Bolts and the Trigger Guards. They even all share the same "vertical" loading lever latch, the latches are all 1st model pattern which was carried over from the 1847 (some original Colt's 2nd models had the newer "horizontal" you see on all of the Colt's models after than). I can tell you the oval bolt stops work fine on the Uberti 1847s, "Whitneyville- Dragoons and the 1st Model 1848s so don't worry about needing the newer rectangular notch with the lead in.

Makos, thanks for the heads up about texas jacks. Probably be february before I get one(after I sell my fur from trapping). Main thing for me was staying away from the V spring.
