Even the refs to taking the debris to Barksdale AFB in Shrevesport, for God's sake is innacurate! I was born there (& almost died much later) ... It's in Bossier City - across the river!

Way I understand it, by the time the shuttle enters the atmosphere it's pretty much devoid of any fuel that could cause an explosion of this type...

Yep, they empty their tanks in space. When it enters the atmosphere, it is nothing more than a well-designed meteor.
