What is the best rifle for those who use .38/.357 revolvers for carry, home defense, in fact almost exclusively?

I've seen and handled some Rossi lever actions but don't care for the safety on top of the receiver.

But I'd like to find a reliable rifle that would chamber and shoot the same .38/.357 rounds that I use - most often Remington .38 Special 158 grain + P LSWC HP.

What does the forum think?

My choice was the Marlin 1894 Cowboy with the octagon barrel. I have a buddy who has one with a red dot mounted in the "scout" position...We call it the California Urban Rifle.

He has his paired with a Ruger Gp-100, I've paired mine with a Colt Python

I took a similar approach but opted for a Marlin 1894CSS (stainless steel) paired with two GP100s (3" and 4" both stainless) and a Python (4" stainless). I suppose I need two more '94s.

My "suburban assault rifle" is a Marlin 1894 carbine in .357/.38. I bought it during the bird flu pandemic scare a few years ago (that was my excuse anyway.) I put a little Leupold rimfire scope on it, but I think I'm gonna take that off and put it on my .22 where it belongs.

Not many guns give you that much firepower and look so harmless. Maybe an M1 Carbine loaded with softpoints...

I would have gotten the stainless steel, but couldn't find one when I was looking...but then the only stainless revolver I have is my 2.5" M-66. It reminds me of the Richard Boone show "Hec Ramsey"

Interestingly, I like stainless revolvers and blue/wood rifles. So 1894C for me.

Same as the others have said Marlin 1894c. Be careful though as they are very addictive kinda' like lays potatoe chips you just can't have one. There is no cure for it but to buy another marlin:D

I have a Marlin 1894C and 1894CB, but really, even though I prefer .357 revolvers for concealed and field carry, my favored companion rifles are a BLR in .308 Winchester, and a Mini-14 in .223/5.56. I managed to luck into an 1894CSS, too, but gave it to my wife. She is more of a believer in matching-ammo combos than I am.

The above paragraph refers to non-defensive rifles. When it comes to defensive firearms, I am expected to shoot bad guys, or or off the clock, with weapons on my "qual" list at work, so my serious companion rifle is an AR15, the only weapon I can presently use as a patrol rifle.

My blue Marlin 1894C .357/38spcl along side my blue 4 5/8 Ruger Blackhawk convertible .357/38spcl/9mm doesn't offend anyone and looks as cuddly as a new puppy.... with freakin teeth.

To funny:) but very true, you should join the 1894 club too.

Hello friends and neighbors // .357/.38 rifle

I have not found a Marlin at the right price but my Interarms (Rossi) Model 92 SRC is an older one without the safety and I have zero complaints.

When shooting 38s the LRN work best in my rifle.
Good luck finding what works for you.

oh...Mine is mostly paired with a 6" S&W Model 586 Distingshed Combat Magnum. 357rifle1.jpg

Not a good pic but all I have right now. I had been out shooting both the Marlin .357 94c and the Blackhawk so both are smudged up. That and the fact I would starve if I tried to make a living as a photographer.

I had an older pre-safety Rossi 1892 clone that was nice. The Marlins are nice too.
The best available? The new Winchester 1892 (Miroku repro?) with the tang safety (hard to avoid a safety these days).
I saw one at a gun show, very, very nice.
CDNN has them for $799 IIRC.
