I have noticed a couple of the new S&W revolvers come with compensators on the end of the barrel. What is the purpose of a compensator in the first place?
When well-designed, they reduce muzzle flip when shooting by directing muzzle gases upward. Some compensators work better than others. And some rounds work better with compensators than others. Generally, the higher pressure the round, the better the compensation.
