I shot the CMP rimfire sporter game with a 10-22 against some guys who regularly beat me with their CZ 457 bolt guns until last year's Covid cancel. But I usually came in 1-2 against 10-15 other shooters shooting various guns including other CZ's.
I've had my 10-22 since 1987 or so and futzed around with any little trick that came down the pike. The best modifications I've made was to replace the mag release, polish the sear, free float the skinny barrel, shim the receiver (so your sling doesn't affect PoA) and shorten the bolt face. In that order.
I don't recommend shortening the bolt face yourself unless you are very patient and careful. Unless your modified bolt hits the barrel breech square/flat when you chamber a round, you haven't improved anything. Or the sear polish, for that matter as you can't afford misfires or doubles.
Those mods changed this 10-22 from a 3" gun at 50yds prone to a less than 2" gun. The only after market addition was the magazine release which requires no modification to the gun.
Being able to shoot 2" offhand at 25 yds will be a big plus.
