Concealed Carry Permit pays off

I wonder how long it'll be before he gets fired, if he hasn't been already.

Of course he will be fired. He knew that before he carried on the job. It is a shame, but also a prerequisite of employment. He agreed to be employed and to abide by the owner's rules as part of employment. Since he broke the rules, the owner has the option of firing him. Given the chain, they will. That is just the risk the shooter ran. He saved his own life at the expense of his job. It was a gamble he was willing to make and he made the right choice.

What worries me is the requirements of the license. If he had a FL license in St. Louis was it valid? The receprocity rules are confusing at best.

Remember, even if the permit is recognized, LOCAL LAW still applies.

Ever heard of Second Chance Body Armor? The guy who invented it was a pizza driver in Michigan as a young man, and came up with the idea for his body armor while recuperating from being shot during a robbery. All he could afford was a 22, but he practiced with it, and on the night in question he ripped off six shots fast, against two adversaries. IIRC he hit one of them on the point of the chin, missed the other, and got shot twice as he ran for his car. Now he's a millionaire. His good idea has saved a LOT of good guys through the years!

My hat's off to the two letter-writers above, both letters made good points. Gadsen (sp?) needs to be told in no uncertain terms what a "Victim" is, it sure as hell isn't a guy who commits several felonies against an allegedly unarmed delivery guy! My letter will be sent shortly.

Here's what I wrote to him..............

Dear Mr. Gadson,

I am a former police-beat writer, as well as an ex-law enforcement professional. As I'm sure it's been pointed out to you by now, someone who is shot while participating in an Armed Robbery can hardly be seen as a "Victim" of anything but his own stupidity. This 19-year old criminal willingly chose to commit several felonies in the process of summoning a man to his location for a premeditated Robbery. It has been widely publicised that Domino's drivers are not allowed to carry concealed firearms for their own protection. So as a budding robber, thanks to the media, now the Bad Guys know who to call! It's kind of like these idiotic "Gun-Free Zones" around schools. Why not just put up a sign that says, "Unarmed Victims! Take all you want, no one here can stop you!"

Journalists (like you, in this case) frequently make self-defense against criminal scum sound like an abherration, a horrid and frightening concept. Missouri has had an excellent concealed-carry permit system in place for several years, or didn't you know that? Since gun-control laws only affect the lawful, this measure has levelled the playing field. The death of the 19-year old is a tragedy of his own making. It is referred to in the firearms press as "Making a fatal error in the Victim-Selection Process". We are not sheep, we do NOT have to give in to the wolves, and we WILL fight back against those who try to rob, maim and kill us.

Please don't villify us when we defend ourselves. The dead man was not a victim, he was a fool and a Felon. The Armed Citizen you tried to paint as a killer should be treated as a hero, not a pariah. If I ever meet him, he gets a pat on the back and a cold beverage of his choosing.

Thank you for your time.

Sgt John Abrams
