Hey all,
I am considering buying another 9mm autoloader and am looking for ideas. Currently I have a Glock 17 and Sig 226, I also have an HK USP 45 and several 1911's.
I am looking for someting different for around $750, maybe a 9mm 1911. What would you all recommend for a good 3rd string 9mm?

I'll second the P99. Great pistol.
But, If you have $750 to spend look at the Walther P88C, it is perhaps, my favorite pistol. I can never choose a favorite, but the P88C is always up there.

What, no Browning Hi-Power?

Rather than get a JMB design refitted for an unsuited cartridge (9mm 1911), why not get a JMB design built around the 9mm?

CDNN ran out of stock on those NIB $399 FN-marked Hi-Powers, but some THR-affiliated shop in Oklahoma (Reed's? Ralphs?) has them for about the same price, or did as of last week or so.

I'm a 1911 shooter, but do covet a HP from time-to-time. This was not helped by, of all things, seeing Ice-T's chromed HP in "New Jack City", but I digress.

We also had a few of them that we confiscated in Iraq, so we all enjoyed fondling those. At least one Marine was planning to buy one upon returning to the States.

Dang, now you've got me covetting again.

Over 800 rounds and not one malfunction! :)

Take a good look at a Browning Hi-Power. Most comfortable and naturally pointing pistol to my hand.

Ah, my favorite caliber. A Ruger KP89, a Beretta 92FS, or a CZ would be fine additions to your collection. For the 750 bucks, you can probably have both NIB Ruger and CZ, depending on where you live.

Very, very nice-looking Springfield, mcandles!

BTW, Mr. mcandles, I thought you were dead!

(The running joke through the John Wayne movie, Big Jake, had virtually every character thinking Big Jake McCandles was dead...Oh, if you gotta explain it, it isn't funny! )

:D

MAClarkWA, I would at least look at CZs. Great quality for the price!

The Browning Hi-Power is a classic. I think it was the first high capacity 9mm. You might want to consider it.

I recently purchased a new 9mm. I tried a Glock 17, a Beretta 92, and a CZ75DAO. I bought the CZ. Cost was not a factor. The CZ grip simply fits my hand better than any other pistol, and I controlled it in rapid fire better than the 17 and 92.

STRONGLY Consider the Browning Hi Power -

IMHO - it is the Finest 9mm available.

It will become the 1st String choice once you get one - Guaranteed!

Enjoy!

I have two 1911-pattern 9mm pistols; one's a Colt Combat Commander, and the other is a Kimber TacPro alloy frame. I prefer the 1911 pattern over just about anything else; I've sold the Glocks, the HiPower, the CZs, the Rugers, and the S&W's, but I've kept the 1911's.....

The 9+1 capacity of the 1911 doesn't make we want for anything more, and having the exact same ergonomics and manual of arms as my other pistols seems like a good idea...

Two words.

Ecks Dee.

(Springfield Armory XD in case you ain't had your coffee).:p

+1

I have two, the sub-compact and the tactical in 9mm. Both have been excellent guns.

I agree with Boldkharma regarding the Beretta 92FS. I, too, agree that, along with the GLOCK 17 and SIG Sauer 226, it is among the three great combat 9mm pistols.

i vote for the springfield 1911. i have the ultra compact and love it! if you want to carry it, i'd recommend the micro compact.

Most all of the guns previously mentioned are fine, fine handguns. I would advise that you consider the tried and true, classic makes that we all know will stand the test of time, be good shooters, and hold value. Beretta, CZ, Browning, HK, and Sig would be good choices. If a 1911 style gun is what you're after the Springfield full size may be a easy pick. A Kahr is another pick if you enjoy a smaller gun, and these may, after time, move onto the "classics" list, IMHO

I have always been tempted by the Brownings, but my problem is I like single-tone stainless autos, and can't find any in the Browning catalog. What's with the two-tone skunk look anyway?

The 1911's are also nice, but after my KP89, I am hooked on SA decockers and consider it a must in any favorite design. This "cocked-and-locked" business makes me very uneasy too. Finally, many of the 1911's do not have an external extractor, which I also consider a must for a perfect design.

Okay, I am a snob.

Nope - they are not American-made. That rule also makes me agonize over Beretta 92 Inox and Beretta Cheetah (.380), since I like them a lot.

I hear the 7's are great little guns, the only gripes being they heat up fast in sustained fire (what gun does not?) and are relatively expensive. Also, I heard they have been discontinued.

So am I, and any pistol that needs three parts to do the job of one doesn't quite qualify for perfection... :neener:

Like some other posters already wrote, If you can find a HK P7 for that low it would be my first choice, considering what you already have. The Browning Hi-Power is also another good choice and new it is right at $750. There is also the HK USP and the Springfield XD, both of which are polymer like your Glock. I own a Sig P226 and a CZ-75 in 9mm and the CZ is my favorite, but it probably costs half of what you want to spend. You could also wait and get the new S&W MP in 9mm but it to would probably be similar to the Glock and probably well under $750. A new S&W 5906TSW probably retails for close to $750.

If you want something truly different like a Sig P210 or a S&W 952 you would have to go well over $750.

Brownings are not American made either...damned little is these days...

The P7M8 is a bargain for what you get...and just try buying one in another year...
