Not sure how to word this, but here I go.

Is it possible to re-work a Rock Island Armory, Firestorm (Metro Arms made, not Llama), or other foreign made knock off 1911 to .45 Super? Ace Custom .45s had conversion kits for Colt and S&W 1911's, does anyone know if one of these would work on an import?

Most of those are cast frames. I don't if they'd hold up to the abuse of the super. Of particular concern would be the slide stop pin hole getting severely battered.

The only really low cost 1911 that has a forged frame is the Norinco. Pre-ban used ones sometimes show up around $450.

However, I hear too many very knowledgeable folks and professional gunsmiths cautioning against hot-rodding the .45. Here were some other recent comments:

I would use caution and do a lot of homework on it, even with a Colt slide.

If you need that much power, to me it seems like a great reason to get a .357 or even .44 Magnum. Yum...

+1 on the NORINCO

the norcs will be able to handle the severe battering recoil of the super .45acp. RIA and the others may able able to do as well but its only a matter of time before it breaks down.

Goodluck with your project anyway.

I tried it with an older SA 1911. Ended up going .460 Rowland. Shot OK, but not great. Still had the .445 Super bug, though, and ended up running it in a revolver for a while.
The Norc should hold up to the beatings of the .45 Super.
