So I just moved from CA to TN, one of the guns got I brought was a brand new Saiga AK, I still have the box, it has handling marks but has new been fire. I saw an ak folder at flea market and they were asking 1100 wich I thought was obscene so I am thinking about converting the saiga, but wondering if it might be collectable? Maybe I should just buy an ak, about how much would expect to spend on a basic conversion?

A basic conversion of just the stock/ pistol grip and trigger can be done pretty inexpensively at home if you're moderately handy.

I'd keep it, and either convert it yourself/pay to have it done.

The Saiga's, despite their unconventional stock/trigger arraignment are done if the better built AK's on the market with regards to trunions, barrels and bolts.

JMO but I'd leave it as is. It's leagle in more states than if you convert it with outlawed features. That also makes it more valuable. I wish I picked a couple up back when they were 259.00. But new SKS,s were under 100 and a AK was 300 or less. Enjoy it.

Saigas are collectible and expensive. I’d just buy a pre-built AK to shoot and have fun with. You can maintain the collectibility of the Saiga and not have to stress about botching the conversion on the Saiga.

I'd be tempted to just do a magazine conversion on it, leaving the original stock on it. This is done buy adding a bullet guide:

Otherwise, I would be tempted to get an AK builder involved and make it into a nice Russian AK with all the correct forearms, pistol grip, front gas block, etc. I'd want a correct polymer folding stock on it.

If Krebs is still doing them, he does nice work.

That he did. Marc cleaned up my Romanian SAR-1 back in the day. Historically he got out of the gunsmithing business, and is only selling new AK's built by his shop. That might've changed with this economy and it would be worth giving Krebs Custom a call to see if they will work on it or recommend a builder.

Looking at the Krebs website just now:

He recommends the following company for gun smithing / AK builds:

I have one, It's a better rifle and more valuable if you don't convert it. I did put a bullet guide in it so I can use standard mags. I don't understand why one would want to convert one. I guess kids think it is cool but it makes the rifle more awkward and slower to use.
