Has anyone attempted the .223 Saiga conversion? What kind of surplus mags do you use for your converted Saiga? I guess Galil and Weiger are two main choices. How hard is it to modify these magazines for use with the rifle? And will I need to install a bullet feed ramp for use of these mags? Thanks in advance for the advice!

I use the Galil Orlite mags. They're 35 rd mags, only cost $15, and are super easy to modify. And yes; you must install a bullet ramp. Go over to www.forum.saiga-12.com - A member there named Dinzag sells a great, cheap bullet ramp kit and there are detailed instructions with pictures you can download on how to modify the mags.

Important note: If you're going to modify your Saiga to accept hi-cap mags, you will have broken Federal law unless you replace a certain number of parts with US made parts. All the info on that law and what parts are easiest/ cheapest to replace may be found at the Saiga forum.

Happy blasting.

What about the .308?

Are there any options for 922(r) compliant Saiga .308 rifles to convert existing magazines?

Yes, a new guy on the scene converts G3 magazines for the .308.

I'm toying with the idea of Polish metal 5.45 magazines with Robarm .223 followers for my S.223...

Though I have asked Mike Davidson about making a Galil AR mag adapter or a mini-14 mag adapter, that would sit in the Saiga magwell like the S12 magwell he is producing now... so we'll see.

The guy converts 20 round G3 Magazines to 17 round Saiga 308 magazines. I may grab a couple to have some metal magazines.

FBMG has 20 round thermamold Saiga 308 magazines that do fine.
